Where are people getting models these days

By joewrightgm, in Star Wars: Legion

found a local community, nice people, looking to dip my toe back in.

so where to buy? Everyone and their brother online seems to be out of stock or scalping, and the shops in my area that normally carry it and the shelves were bare of clone wars stuff.

is anyone having success ordering from FLGS?

I guess in general; reason I ask is that everywhere I see online is dry, so I’m more than happy for my local stores but I don’t want to throw money at the game unless I could get, for example, a clone wars starter.

So here's the deal. A lot of FLGS don't sell online. Online retailers take the brunt of the demand for new products, so they're often going to be dry. There's a good chance local stores still have them in stock but don't have a way to get them to new players, because there either isn't a large gaming group at that store and/or they have no online presence.

For example, I ran into 3 clone Wars core boxes collecting dust at a store in Ohio today. (As well as death troopers). I snagged all 3 and I'm selling them online now. When talking to people about product availability you get the impression they're gone, but there're still around, you just gotta dig a bit.

If you phone or email FLGS's they'll ship you stuff even though it won't likely be on their website.

My FLGS did phone in orders with curbside pick up. They are back open now for orders and purchases, but the gaming tables are still closed. Given recent events and the uptick in cases, it will likely be that way well into fall sadly.

I have always had good success with (exclusively) ordering Legion from my FLGS, but that is because I place pre-orders or otherwise get the product on the day of release. I live near a major city, so stock tends to deplete in the first few weeks, and FFG takes awhile to reprint product at the best of times.

I mean, I am mostly getting them from my basement these days. Trying to paint the backlog!!!!

Our FLGS has been awesome with offering to ship if needed and offering curbside and now it can take customers in store again!

But ...

They didn’t get their Cassian/Iden/AAT/VA shipment when expected. After inquiry, their sales rep was laid off and the order was sitting ready to ship - there just wasn’t any communication. So if local stores aren’t getting stock they should check with sales reps. The models are out there. I got my AAT from Miniature Market 2 weeks ago and got an email from FFG that July preorders are getting ready to ship.

You laugh. But I have painted probably 200 plastic minis from 1990’s boxed games during ye olde Covidian time. It’s crazy around here.

It was a laugh of agreement more than anything else.

For me it’s probably a laugh of insanity. I am completely unhinged. Remember when Ren had Space Madness?

I guess my real question is: if I order something that’s listed as ‘out of stock’ on FFG’s website, IE, B2 droids or a core set for clone wars, an I ever likely to get them?

Sounds like you could use Log. Everybody loves Log. It can roll down stairs and if your kids want to play its great in pairs. Just watch out for your neighbor's dog. If you get hungry it'll be a great snack. Easy to transport around on your back too. Overall I'd say that Log is better than bad, it's good!

When I was a young man, my parents resorted to surviving by buying up junk lots at yard sales and auctions, then reselling the best antiques out of them at shows. In one of these lots from an estate sale or somewhere, was a poorly taxidermied squirrel, attached to a large branch. My brother and I immediately identified it as "New and improved LOG!" and swore to my mom that we could convince counter culture college kids to pay actual money for it, but she wouldn't believe us.

You will get them, but it will take time. FFG is notoriously bad at reprints. That said, Legion being one of, if not the, largest seller for them, it's going to get reprints faster than some of the other games. Armada is hurting bad for reprints right now, and they're slowly creeping out.
