New rule book disappointment.

By gdotbat, in Tannhauser

So now that I have the new rulebook and have browsed through it, I do have one complaint:

ONE scenario for each of the two base game maps, and FIVE scenarios for the Novgorod map!!!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!??

Everything else looks great, but man if this doesn't scream "GO BUY NOVGOROD NOW!!!"

Very disappointing...

I was very disapointed with the included scenarios too. FFG had their own seven scenario "campaign" why wasn't it included?

the published scenarios are the ones from Operation Novgorod and the Charakter-Packs - in the original rulebook there wasn´t a scenario, so FFG left it out, too.

I hope that they´ll put some scenarios online soon.

And yes, I would have been happy if they had printed one or two new scenarios for the first two maps.

The scenarios in the book are a logical choice since the whole product is a big update of what has been printed until now. For example no bonus token available on the website were included in the book, nor where any of the original Take on You scenarios.

I can understand your disappointment about this, and I agree it is a fairly transparent marketing strategy.

However, there are plenty of scenarios out there to use, free for the taking. I haven't bought the V2 rules yet so I don't know how easy it would be to convert old V1 scenarios to V2, but I'm sure its possible. If the V2 rules are compatible with all the existing components then it should just be a question of adjusting dice rolls and mechanics to suit the set up they provide.

FFG reprinted the scenarios that people had to pay money for (character packs, and Novgorod). The others were free downloads and probably will be again after they've been updated. I was looking through a couple of them and they had some scenarior specific rules that wouldn't work with the new ruleset.

Based on their commitment to the game so far, including the outright purchase of the game system, and the upcoming troops and Daedalus, it's gonna be okay.
