Heroes of the Aturi Sector? 😂

Not going to lie, the Squadrons article was the first place I've seen the article in many years, and by instinct I thought at first that it must be related to the co-op tabletop game.

Yep, He walks among us.

Updates from the official EA SW Squadrons Discord:

  • There will be only a standard edition to order 6/15
  • More details will come about how cross-play works 6/16
  • Ammo system will be for abilities and not for the lasers 6/18
  • When changing ships, you can do it when respawning, or by returning to your flag ship in Fleet Battles and changing inside the hangar 6/18
  • Dogfight mode has the normal point cap and timer 6/18
  • The targeting computer is manually controlled, but also has some automatic aspects 6/18
  • Future PB’s will discuss changing loadouts in the ships 6/18
  • Team is not currently planning dedicated mod support, and if they do add it then it will be like the DICE policy was - if it’s offline, it’s okay 6/19
  • There will be a scoreboard to check mid-match 6/19
  • Does not know if HOSAS will be supported, but it is unlikely 6/19
  • All cosmetic and upgrades are earned via gameplay; most are unlocked when player has progressed enough, but some have other sources 6/19
  • Auto-aim cannon component is not as powerful and has some downsides to it 6/19
  • Can toggle free-look in the cockpit, but there is nothing to share on TrackIR yet 6/19
  • Will share details on skill-based matchmaking in the future 6/19
  • Can avoid missiles with skilled flying 6/19
  • Potentially bots will not be marked in the UI as it currently stands 6/19
  • Primary weapons can be switched with a component, and there are 7 total component slots if the ship has shields 6/19
  • The two factions’ customized pilots in the game will be the same regardless of ship used on each side 6/19
  • Pilot customization can be changed in the customization menu outside of matches 6/19
  • A live game demo would be difficult given the working from home conditions 6/23
  • Nothing to share on the closed beta yet 6/25
  • Capital ships move around during fleet battles 6/25
  • AI fighters will use all ships, and will be part of the capital ships and flagships 6/25
  • All cosmetics are authentic to Star Wars and the pilots players will play as 6/29
  • The players’ pilot names can be changed 6/29
  • In fleet battles, after the first dogfight, the winning team attacks the capital ships and the defending team attacks the starfighters; if the defending team is successful in that phase then they will start attacking the other side’s capital ships. Once one sides’ capital ships are destroyed, it is easier to attack the flagship. 6/29
  • There will not be phase changes like in BFII Supremacy, instead the battle will flow toward the next phase 6/29
  • A player from any platform can invite someone from any other platform to play with them 6/29
  • Some resources have a cooldown while others are limited and can be resupplied by support ships and capital ships / flagships 6/29
  • Usually if something is finite it uses ammo, like missiles; if it does something to the ship or changes a function, it is usually a recharge, like a repair unit / astromech 6/29
  • Team discussed an Aurebesh option at one point, but it is not planned now 6/29
  • The white spot on the throttle is the sweet spot for turning 6/29
  • Can go to multiplayer after the prologue 6/29
  • Voice chat is across all platforms 6/29

Was this played on a mobile phone or something? Those graphics are pretty bad.

They basically gave the video game press codes to play at home. Some of these guys are better set up to stream than others I wouldnt draw too many conclusions from the video. Some were playing xbox and others ps4 and pc (and we dont know the specs of the pc)

The flip side is it's a 40 dollar game it might not be the most cutting edge graphical experience.

Wow. Either mobile games graphics have come a long way or people have gotten spoilt. The graphics don't look bad at all? Could they be better? Sure, but as @reqentsaid above it was people running it on their own systems rather than a perfect rig built with the game in mind.

Also...its like, an alpha build. We're over two months from release. I'm sure they're polishing the game, and everyone I've read who has played it LOVED it.

Here’s a detailed rundown of the customisation options. Looks pretty extensive.

I like that hull repair is in the same slot as ordnance. Means you have to choose between regen or extra firepower.

So it turns out the Mandalorian uses a Thrustmaster T16000.

It really should be a lot further along than just an alpha build. Not a final build, sure, but not exactly an alpha version.

It does sound like other fighters are in the game beyond the playable ones.

Boom

That looked exactly like the sort of mission you'd get in the original Xwing andd Tie Fighter games. HYPE!

Hype!!

That would be if a certain 5-winged-ship featured in the game. For now, I'm moderately hyped.

Funny you should say that. Because there's a couple of little Easter egg cameos in the Imperial mission shown in the trailer that suggest it could be a very real possibility...

Don't get too excited (yet!) - but we see a couple of mainstays from the PC X-Wing series make their first Disney canon appearance in the trailer.

The "orbital installation" shown in the Imperial mission is quite clearly an XQ Series Platform. Introduced in the X-Wing / TIE FIghter series and not seen since then. and in the same mission (around the 1:50 mark), we see the classic BFF-1 Cargo Freighter - again, introduced in the PC X-Wing series, and last appeared in Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II as far as I'm aware.

We already know that this game is going to be something of a love letter to the old PC games, now we know we're getting some of the old school ships created for those games. So... what else could be in there?

What a good opportunity to [properly] canonize the Assault Gunboat! With SLAM! (even if not playable, I don't care)

Thinking about it, wouldn't it be a blast it you could pilot the B-wing, the Assault Gunboat and/or the TIE Defender in the campaign? These ships might be hard to balance in the multiplayer, but there is no issue in allowing the players to fly them in singleplayer.

That’s what I’m hoping for. Fingers cross🤞

They aren't going to do that. The campaign is to teach you how to use the ships in multi-player. They will not have you spend time in ships not in multi-player. And some of you already can not shut up about these ships not being in multi-player. What the frell would be the noise level on that dren if they put them in the campaign? So there is an issue with that. Not to mention the technical problems and man hours needed for that.

This game is a bit of a trial balloon. What we have been shown is what are going to get to fly. What we see is what we are going to get with this. This entire game is a test to see if they can sell a starfighters only game. If the game sells "well enough" and the servers stay populated "long enough" they will drop starfighters from Battlefront and we'll get bigger versions of this with all the toys on next generation consoles.

Yup.

I doubt we'll see that; I don't expect any DLC - from everything I've seen so far the dev's are saying "what you see is what you get", with no additional purchases. The game is quite clearly based and balanced around four ships vs four ships.

This is the big hope for me. Fans have been clamouring for another Star Wars space combat sin for decades now. So, with a bit of luck enough of these fans will give this a shot (and the game will be good enough for them to stick with it) for EA to recognise the demand for a dedicated starfighter sim to go all in with the concept on next gen tech.

All that said, I'm loving the callbacks. The XQ and BFF-1 give me hope we'll see more old-school X-Wing designs say hello at points during the campaign, even just as cameos. I remember getting fleeting glimpses of the Outrider and Lady Luck during X-Wing: Alliances campaign. They weren't playable, but you got to see them flying around at points. How cool would it be if we saw the Otana flyby and got some radio chatter from the Azzameens? Or saw a Gunboat launch from RM a Star Destroyer and jump to lightspeed? I'm willing to bet the campaign will include a lot of little Easter eggs like that for the old school fans, even if they don't directly affect how the game plays.
