A Cyberpunk/Altered Carbon theme in Star Wars.

By Greymantle64, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I've been working up the courage to run EotE for my group, But not really verse with all the lore other than watching the movies. So I've been thinking of this kinda mash up since I've played cyberpunk 2020, shadowrun, D&D, and a variety of other games over the years. So I'm wondering if anyone thinks this theme would be fun or would lose Star Wars feel all together. I see all the elements just in the movies but they just don't seem connected. Just looking for opinions if people think if they would play in a story of this style.

If its done well, and "right," this could be really fun. I'd look at the Genesys corebook too in order to get some inspiration for the more cyberpunky stuff, and the shadow of the beanstalk setting book for genesys could be all sorts of help here

I believe the technician book has the slicing rules in it.

Star Wars is a very versatile setting, so cyberpunk can easily be done. Think of the most hard-core 80s cyberpunk world you can think of, turn it into a planet, and have your party go there. You could make an entire campaign out of it. Make sure to toss a reference to Crash-Override and Acid Burn in there.

The Spy book also has slicing rules in it.

As does the Technician book, Special Modifications.

I would also look into the lore of city planets like Taris, Coruscant, and Nar Shadaa in order to get the dystopia vibes

Yeah... this is pretty much what I'd do with it 😀

Ideal worlds to set it on... so you don't even have to make up a planet if you don't want to.

I can also recommend the Shadow of the Beanstalk book, I bought it for pretty much the same reason... got some great ideas in there, just add Stormtroopers 😀

This, and the The Worlds of Android book too if you can find it!

I've thought for some time that the Corporate Sector would be an excellent in-universe setting for to run cyberpunk inside Star Wars. I've ran across free PDF's of the old WEG material online that I hope is legal to download. Also, there were some Han Solo novels that featured the sector that the game material is based upon. I'm not sure how easy it would be find the books, though.

Ah yes... I was forgetting that! I picked up a pdf version from DriveThru RPG.

You could run a cyberpunk style game in start wars, look at crescent. The rich are all up top and separated from the lower levels. The further down the worse the conditions get. If you see the lower levels on the shows it can easily have a cyberpunk feel, well after removing all the Jedi with Lightsabers.

Thanks for the responses. I've seen plenty of very good ideas and encouraging words on this, here and on other Star Wars forums . I feel with a bit of research I can get it up and running. I see the certain planets also good for a Blade Runner stories on renegade Droids, as well. Which may be may one of my starting point based of what my group decides.
