Loyal Guard

Loyal Guard Reads:

House Baratheon only.

Loyal Guard can be played from your hand as a duplicated on a Noble character.

Ok, so I have some question.

Is Loyal Guard an attachment? Or is it just a duplicate? Can cards like Bear Island and the Castellan target the character the loyal guard is attached to? Can the Wintertime Marauders discard a Loyal Guard that is on a character? Can Dragon Thief discard the Loyal Guard from play if it is on a character? Some of these same questions can probably be asked for Jory Cassel, but they are just now coming to my mind.

You play it as a duplicate so it would be safe to assume you have to treat it like one while it remains attached to the character. It's not an attachment.

Ok, so that would mean attachment discarding effects don't touch it...but what about Wintertime Marauders? While it might act like a duplicate, it is still a non-unique card in play.

Actually, all duplicates are cards in play. You play them from your hand, you discard them, etc. What's more, since all duplicates are supposed to be treated as textless, titleless and traitless, all of them are technically "non-unique cards in play."

Moral of the story: people forget it, and there are usually better choices in play, but Wintertime Marauders can discard any dupe - not just Loyal Guard.

Never thought about that. Really cool gran_risa.gif

about dupes in general:

Is using them a response or a passive ability. Can I use a dupe to save KL Joffrey (Immune to triggered effects)?

Here is the relevant section in the FAQ for your question:

(4.2) Duplicates
Playing a duplicate is not considered to be
playing an attachment. Duplicates may not be
played during setup.
Using a duplicate to save a character from
being killed or discarded is considered to be
a gained triggered "Response:" action. Thus,
it is treated as a triggered effect and may be
canceled, but because it is gained (and there-
fore an ability of the card attempting to use
the response), a character who is "immune
to triggered effects" can be saved by using a
duplicate, as a card cannot be immune to its
own abilities.

By the way, in general cards are not immune to themselves:

(3.17) Self-Immunity
A card with immunity is not immune to its
own abilities.
