Hero and Ally - Same Name

So I am trying to figure out how these new hero packs work with allies of the same name. For instance we have Black Widow hero and Black Widow ally .

  • Can a Black Widow with Protection have a Black Widow ally in their deck?
  • Can a different player at the table have a Black Widow ally if someone is playing Black Widow?

Looking at the rules is says: "If a hero and a unique ally share the same title, but the alter-ego and the subtitle are different, they may coexist in deckbuilding and in play." Based on the fact that both cards say Natasha Romanov, I would assume that they can not co-exist?

Correct.

For example, in the upcoming Red Skull box, the Clint Barton version of Hawkeye is one of the two heroes, and his deck comes with the Kate Bishop version of Hawkeye, which can both be played because they are different people (alter-egos). However, the current Clint Barton Hawkeye ally cannot be played with the new Clint Barton Hawkeye hero because they share the same alter-ego. Of course, you will be able to have both Hawkeye allies in the same deck and/or in play at the same time since, again, they're different people.

To clarify a bit: Natasha Romanoff Black Widow Hero cannot have the Natasha Romanoff Black Widow Ally in her deck at all, as you cannot break uniqueness within a deck. If somebody has a pre-built protection deck with the Black Widow Ally in it, however, the rules do not force them to swap that card out of their deck when playing alongside a Black Widow hero. They simply cannot play the Black Widow ally so long as the Black Widow hero is in play. (Presumably one could play an Ally after the corresponding Hero is defeated, but I don't think we've actually gotten that ruling to be sure.)
