1.0 to 2.0, what cardboard do I keep?

By Vellcrow, in X-Wing

Hello! I have been away for a little while, but I recently bought all the 2.0 conversion kits along with two core sets and I am back in the cockpit!

Anyway, I wanted to know what cardboard should I keep from 1.0; nothing is being thrown out, I'm just boxing it up.

Should I just start fresh with all the 2.0 stuff I bought, or do I need to keep some 1.0 cardboard in play?

None of the 1.0 cardboard needs to be kept unless you want to keep some extra tokens around

Edit: I forgot about bombs/mines, obstacles, rigged cargo chute

Forgot stuff!

Shield tokens for sure (cover one side with red tape if you plan on doing tournaments) as well as bomb tokens.

What these guys said.

I use all my tokens and locks from 1e.

Shields got a red marker to one side.

Obstacles and bombs are critical components, like dice and range/movement templates.

Old damage decks can go away...

Ship numbers from 1e might come in handy.

I use the old colored Aurebesh mini tokens from one of the 1e missions as target locks, since you can match to colors with stickers on your dials if you're into that.

If you use the plastic dial upgrades you need to save some of the little ship type indicator chits

Thanks to everyone! We played our first 2e game today and it did look like we had everything we needed.

We were very disappointed in what was offered in the conversion kits. Not enough of one thing, too much of another. Oh well, time to set up the next squad.

Care to elaborate on specifically what was too much / not enough?

I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to need for my upgrades.

IIRC, token wise there's not many shield/focus/evade tokens in the conversion kits, but lots of charge, ion, tractor etc.

Nothing too serious, anyway.

Everybody always forgets the hexagonal Director Krennic token...

Fixed for you.

OH! TOTALLY FORGOT!

If you have 1E dials for those, you can still use those since NOTHING changed on them fundamentally (greens are now blue). Also, yeah, the conversion kits had a few odd decisions made, but also it was impossible for them to make it so they covered everyone's specific collection. Depending what you're short on, you may want to look into the card packs that came out. Plenty of duplicate weapons and the re-institution of cluster mines in the Fully Loaded pack, more duplicate upgrades as well as NEW gear and pilots in Hot Shots and Aces (B-Wing S-Foils... B-WING S-FOILS!! Oh, and a few new pilots for the original 5 factions), and extra/new obstacles in the Never Tell Me the Odds pack (as well as some extra upgrades like rigged cargo chute and spare parts container... ).

Erm… What do you mean by "those"?

@Vellcrow For reference, thanks to @sirjorj 's site: http://xhud.sirjorj.com/xwing.cgi/?

List of 2.0 dials that are unchanged from 1.0 other than swapping out 1.0 green maneuver color to blue:

Gunboat (Alpha class Starwing), ARC 170, Attack Shuttle, K-Wing, Fang Fighter, Lambda Shuttle, Lancer-class Pursuit Craft, TIE/Ag, TIE/Ln, TIE/Fo, Upsilon Shuttle, U-Wing, YT-2400, and YV-666.

All of the other ships in game are either new to X-Wing or had something change on the dial in the version transition.

Can you clarify what you meant? Most dials changed in 2.0. The ones that didn't are the Starwing, Attack Shuttle, Fang, K-Wing, Lambda, Lancer, TIE/ag, TIE/ln, TIE/sf , U-Wing, YT-2400, YV-666.

I was wrong on the TIE/sf

/Sf changed. It now has 5 straight, 3 turns are white instead of red, and the 2 banks are now blue instead of white.

Thanks Hiemfire. That's what I get for going off a year-old Reddit post.

OH GOD.... sorry, got distracted... a LOT going on over here.

Standard TIE Fighter dials...

That's what I meant >_<

I kind of figure you were refering to /Lns. Just wanted to make sure. 🙂 Stay safe Kehl, it doesn't look like it's going to cool down any time soon to me.

-Red sharpie pen works excellently as well *), just paint the little circles from blue to red on one side, voila, beautiful shield tokens.

-if you plan on flying big shops on medium bases, like e.g. Arc170 with their wing span, I would keep some of the old stress tokens. The new one are quite small, so they have tendency to "disappear" under/behind the model, the older ones are much unlikely to be overlooked when flying big models

For tournaments though, official tokens might be required as 2nd ed rules distinguish rounded and square tokens.

*) there are other pens as well, but be sure to use one which stays on.

I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to need for my upgrades.

I'm mainly referring to the amount of ships. The numbers of each type that you can convert per kit seemed off to me:

Rebel - only 2 X-Wings, yet 2 Ghosts and 2 each of Phantom I and II?

Empire - only 3 Strikers and Interceptors, but 2 Lambdas?

Scum - only 3 Kihraxz, but 3... yes 3 Quadjumpers???

First Order - 7 TIE/FOs, but 3 Silencers and 3 Upsilons?

Resistance - nothing specifically wrong, but at least you get 4 X-Wings, unlike the mere 2 you get for rebels.

Huge Ships - they only give you two bases. I did not think it was a problem until I saw they are different from the 1.0 bases...and they don't sell extras.

Warning, small rant below:

And then I get everything opened and unpacked, organized according to type of card, realize I need more sleeves...and then I find that FFG has discontinued their sleeves! Yes, I am behind the curve a little due to recent events, but no more sleeves FFG? Really? I have now bought into Dragon Shields and I am very upset that FFG has stopped sleeve support. Plus, my Shadow Caster title card has a neat little hole in it, but due to FFG/Asmodee revised replacement policy, I have to spend more money on Ebay or something to find a replacement.

virtually all swarms require 2 or more upgrade kits because not enough generics were included. Meanwhile ships rarely flown in multiples have duplicate pilot chits.

the upgrades you would likely use multiples of you only get one of. no running an ordinance or cannon list without multiple kits, god help you if you want duplicate illicits. This is the most frustrating. My Z-95 list uses 3 kits work of upgrades... meaning it costs more to convert the Z-95 than it does to buy new ones.

also some pilots cant be put in a list together because they are on opposite sides of the same chit.

all very simple problems that should not have made it past quality control.

Im sorry you missed nap time. rest is important

Some mates I have still love to play (and some only play) 1.0, so I kept my old gear to play with them. I have enjoyed the 2.0 to be sure, but hey, as long as your gear is separate, the ships will go either way. I may be in the tiny minority on this.

I know this has nothing to do with the OP's inquiry, but you guys hit that nail beautifully on the head.

...now where's that pint?
