Tie Advanced Swarm plus Cow

By KingmanHighborn, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Recently got two more tie advanced x1s cause they were on sale and it's one of my favorite ships. So I got four and thought about 4 fcs tempests and a naked Jendon, but I figured having 3 punchy Storms, with offensive AND defensive mods would be better especially paired with a more Punchy Space Cow build. I also like elusive cause I tallon frequently.

You can actually afford all the non-Vader names ones. Which is FUN! 😁 👍

Or drop AS / CS for Palp. But I prefer AS.

Only things I dislike is Krennic and Ion Cannon.

  • Ion Cannon doesn't feel like much of an improvement over the primary weapon. Tractor Beam makes some sense (it can be a nice damage boost if you can draw a ship a range-band closer), but I don't think Ion adds much.
  • Krennic just doesn't seem worth it either. I don't think the Optimized Prototype condition really adds a tonne. The way the locks have to line up can be awkward, and the benefit it provides just seems really slim. He's a slightly less efficient Targeting Computer, though, and can sometimes be handy.
  • Some alternatives:
    • Admiral Sloane. Low ship count for a Sloane list, but she's a nasty control piece, and can help your TIEs in some situations where they might not have locks.
      • I'd go Sloane, Passive Sensors, Shield, ST-321 if building Sloane.
    • Grand Moff Tarkin. One issue with Jendon and x1 lists is that a first-turn lock gives an opponent a lot of time to run with the locked ship. Using GMT to have Jendon lock a different target, so that you can pull a swap if an opponent runs, or just reload Locks on someone new if the opening round of attacks gets a kill, seems useful.
      • Tarkin would require a lock, which means giving something up, maybe the Cannon, maybe the Hull/Shield Upgrade, maybe FCS (it kind of clashes with ST-321... the title helps you keep getting new locks, so being able to leave an old one unspent doesn't add as much).
      • I'd go Tarkin, Krennic, Tractor Beam, Hull, ST-321, if building Tarkin. As much as I don't value Krennic in himself, it's probably better to Krennic/Hull than to Targeting Computer + 5 points somewhere else.
    • Darth Vader. Being able to strip a token from someone with a bunch of x1s shooting at it can be pretty nice, and the shuttle has two arcs to use Vader from. Not a lot of build options, however. Just ST-321.
    • Emperor Palpatine. You've got 3 ships each with 3 red and 3 green dice. Getting a force charge for some extra dice mods seems pretty handy. I'd go Palp, Shield, ST-321.

targeting computer and st-321 do similar things..... but st321 do it better giving you an additional coordinate action.

i would save that 3 points for a hull upgrade
