Does it make any sense to fly a Starhawk without squadrons?

By Stefan, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So far practically all builds I see for Starhawks come with a strong squadron complement, usually Rogues. I've been thinking about what I'd do flying squadronless or with a minimal force, but I'm coming up empty. Any ideas?

Best I came up with so far:

Name: Starhawk MSU
Faction: Rebel
Commander: Kyrsta Agate

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Contested Outpost
Navigation: Solar Corona

Starhawk Battleship Mark I (140)
• Kyrsta Agate (20)
• Walex Blissex (5)
• Strategic Adviser (4)
• Dual Turbolaser Turrets (5)
• Magnite Crystal Tractor Beam Array (10)
• Concord (12)
= 196 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Comms Net (2)
= 20 Points

Nebulon-B Support Refit (51)
• Slaved Turrets (6)
• Salvation (7)
= 64 Points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• External Racks (3)
= 43 Points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• External Racks (3)
= 43 Points

Squadrons:
• Shara Bey (17)
• Tycho Celchu (16)
= 33 Points

Total Points: 399

Sure

I think you could definitely do it.

One issue I’d expect you to come up against is carrier fleets; the Starhawk isn’t great at forcing engagement, and without squads + flak to make life miserable for them, they can potentially play it safe or at least only wind up engaging the non-hawk half of your fleet. There’s a reason so many squadronless fleets force early ship to ship fighting through speed, range or both.

Luckily, the Hawk is a fortress; one way around it could be to just make your Starhawk able to murder squads on its own. I’ve been toying with this build:

Starhawk Battleship Mark I (140)
• Kyrsta Agate (20)
• Walex Blissex (5)
• Expert Shield Tech (5)
• Local Fire Control/Gunnery Team (4)/(7)
• Quad Laser Turrets (5)
• Leading Shots (4)
• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)
• Unity (10)
= 200/203 Points

And then Toryn on a flotilla to boost flak, salvo and counter against squadrons. Maybe repair crews since the contain is probably going away.

Or you could try to have support ships able to force a fight, like CR90As or MC30s. I like Salvation, and am not averse to a supporting Hammerhead (maybe with Shriv or Cham?) but it might be hard to bring two to bear without a good bid.

Just my two cents, good luck!

This one worked verry Well against an otherweise quite successfull SSD Carrier build.

It killed the SSD in 4 rounds with shara distracting enough squads for two rounds so they did not do enough damage.
