BLue squadron escorts.. doing their job

By Xp45, in X-Wing Squad Lists

trying to find some hyperspace legal lists for when local stores are able to open up and I have purchased a T-65 expansion so now I have 3 and... here's what I've got

Blue squadron escort: 40

-servomotor s-foils(0)

(x3) of those

Blue squadron pilot: 41

-fire control system: 2

-Ion cannon:6

-stabilized s-foils: 2

and since I have exactly 29 points to spare...

Phoenix squadron pilot: 29

points:200

the basic idea here is that the escorts... well... escort the blue squadron b-wing into battle where it target locks, attacks, and then ionizes hopefully again and again while the a-wing does... stuff... it can be a distraction or flanker, or blocker, it's just there to add a 5th ship and get me to 200 points. I think the 3 x-wings make for a solid backbone with a lot of attack dice and decent health to chew through. The B-wing acts as an obvious target and can help funnel an enemy into a position where I can have 3 x-wings and potentially an a-wing shooting at them from all directions, which also makes it easier to predict movements and get a block with the a-wing.

let me know what yall think.

Hey - looks fun!

I'm just wondering whether the B-Wing will struggle for mods to the attacks? FCS will let you re-roll a die but then you need to spend the lock for the second attack right? It feels like you're going to be relying on some favorable dice variance to get it to do much damage. Have you thought about maybe upgrading the B-Wing to a named pilot, upgrading one of the X-Wings to Wedge and dropping the A-Wing?

Something like:

Blue Squadron Escort (40)
Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Ship total: 40 Half Points: 20 Threshold: 3

Braylen Stramm (52)
Ion Cannon (6)
Stabilized S-Foils (2)

Ship total: 60 Half Points: 30 Threshold: 4

Blue Squadron Escort (40)
Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Ship total: 40 Half Points: 20 Threshold: 3

Wedge Antilles (55)
Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Ship total: 55 Half Points: 28 Threshold: 3

Total: 195

interesting idea, I'm not sure how the B-wing would struggle to do what it does, you can attack with 3 dice, reroll one guaranteed, then attack again with 3 dice, this time with ion possibilities, then you take a target lock next turn, I get that the B-wing has A LOT of reds but the plan is just to scoot it forward ever so cautiously, although getting the higher init might well be worth it. I think I like the idea of an init 1 a-wing going scoot scoot and blocking, especially since this list basically focuses the opponents focus on the B-wing, with X-wings flanking, making prediction and funneling a lot easier, in fact, with ions, I think I might drop an X-wing for a Y-wing with some juicy devices to constrict the opponents moves even more. something like this

Blue squadron escort: 80 (x2)

-servomotor s-foils: 0

Ten Numb:48

Gray squadron bomber:30

-proton bombs:5

-Ion cannon turret:5

total (35)

Phoenix squadron pilot: 29

-intimidation:3

total: 200

this one allows for a named pilot, a y-wing with some bombs, (maybe seismic, unsure) and still keep the a-wing.

The Title on B-wings is generally a trap, yes you get two attacks but you're barely modifying either so you really have to lean into the variance. That combined with the 1 agi means your most expensive piece can get burned down without contributing much, if anything, to your match.

You also run into the classic trouble of gaining a lock at low initiative, and then still being pointed at the thing you've locked after they move.

Tis why I replaced the generic with Ten so even if the B has to pull evasive maneuvers, he still gets some mods via stress. Also added a Y for fun bomb shenanigans. Also don’t the s-foils give you more action ability if you feel like it?

That's what I get for not reading the full thread lol

I'd still move the ion cannon onto the Y in that case, have your points more evenly distributed and let Ten focus on double modding his attack rather than going for 1 mod over 2 attacks.

Yeah, should probably move the Ion stuff to the Y, that leaves 3 points for something? I got it! Put intimidation on the Phoenix pilot for maximum effect, think that’ll work? I’ll edit the second list for clarity

Second list is heading the right direction.

Loaded B-Wing is too easy of a "queen bee" for the opponent to focus down on.

Seismics are the way to go on Y-wings, as they are cheaper and thus lower your point threshold on a weak ship, and you get the benefit of occasionally controlling your detonation zone a little easier than with Protons.

That said, I'd nix the Ion Y entirely for an R3 Dutch. His ability to add locks around your squad is bonkers in the early engagement rounds, and makes flying the squad and choosing actions with your escorts far easier.

Upgrade your third X to Porkins at I4 to run closer with Dutch and provide sustained fire from his ability and enhance target obfuscation on your squad leaders.

Locks for days with your Escorts and focus on aggressive offense on key enemy targets, and absolutely abuse your K-turns on everyone except Dutch and keep time on target.

Here's my list:

XP45's Escorts

(40) "Dutch" Vander [BTL-A4 Y-wing]
(3) R3 Astromech
Points: 43

(45) Jek Porkins [T-65 X-wing]
Points: 45

(40) Blue Squadron Escort [T-65 X-wing]
Points: 40

(40) Blue Squadron Escort [T-65 X-wing]
Points: 40

(29) Phoenix Squadron Pilot [RZ-1 A-wing]
(3) Intimidation
Points: 32

Total points: 200

As you said, shove the Phoenix in there for key blocks, especially against big ships, and your squad will eat most 2-4 ship lists for breakfast.

Against another swarms, like Droids, you're really going to have to rely on killing targets before they can shoot, and using your A-Wing to obstruct formations.

At turn 0 against swarms, elect to take initiative when possible. Get your blocker to move before their I1s.

That actually looks really good, I’m just personally a fan of ions as they have proven a godsend in previous matches, but that list does seem like the best way to go, Thanks for the suggestions!
