I've recently begun playing X-wing with my father, after playing a dozen or so games with just the starter set, we got a great deal with some ships which has resulted in the following collection:
2 X-wing, 1 Y-wing, 1 B-wing, 2 HWK for the Rebels and 4 Tie fighter , 2 Tie bomber, 1 Tie defender, 1 Tie Advanced X1 for the Empire
Now we don't really care much about meta, and have thus far only really been playing around 120pts while figuring things out. Now the rest of the stuff has arrived so we're going to move to 200pt but not really sure of the pilots at our disposal and what would be interesting and fun to fly. I've mainly been playing the Empire and he the Rebels
Here are a couple of ideas I've come up with:
Countess Ryad Tie Defender + Lone Wolf + FCS [89]
Maarak Stele Tie Advanced X1 + Marksman + FCS [48]
Seyn Marana Tie fighter + Marksman [31]
Scimitar Pilot Tie bomber + Homing missiles [32]
200 total, although Rexlar would probably do more damage the Countess seems a bit less predictable which seems to be the death of the defender. Seyn and the Bomber plink things at range, being an early game threat or distraction letting Stele get to work.
Major Rhymer Tie bomber + Cluster missiles + Prox mines [49]
Scimitar Pilot Tie bomber + Cluster missiles + Prox mines [38]
Howlrunner Tie fighter + Crack shot [47]
3* Acadamy Pilot Tie fighter [3*22]
200 total, think this would be less combat effective than the first. But I could see a list based around blocking then mine and cluster drops could be great fun to play with. Not used howlrunner yet so going to need some iteration.
Norra Wexley Y-wing + Expert handling + Ion turret + Vet Turret gunner + Seismic charges + R4
Wedge Antilles X-wing + Snap shot + Proton Torpedoes + R4
Ten Numb B-wing + Marksmanship + Autoblasters + FCS + Shield upgrade
198 total, Norra has been used in a few games like this and as been a real thorn to clear out being able to strip green tokens with ease, wedge is just great, Ten Numb able to consume stress allows for great movements and some really nasty potential shots.
Dutch Vander Y-wing + Crack shot + Ion turret + Ion Torpedoes + Proton bombs + R5
Wedge Antilles X-wing + Outmanoeuver + Proton Torpedoes + R4
Red Veteran X-wing + Outmanoeuver + APT + R4
199pt, Dutch skirts the battle handing out locks to the X-wings which allows them to stress into weird positions to torp stuff to death, dutch then using bombs and the turret to reduce counterattack with the ion torps supporting the primary craft
One thing we've really not figured out is how to use the hwks, Leia on one to allow a couple of really unpredictable attack vectors sounds fun as does Jan Ors with Nien Nunb to provide a bonus much like Dutch in the last list. Regardless it would be great to have some input from veterans as to how we are able to design some lists and some neat combos with the ships at our availability.
