Highlander vs. charging (add 2 to your strength and miss your next turn) and drawing multiple cards

By darthmax1, in Talisman Rules Questions

okay so lets say you draw a strength creature and an object while playing the Highlander character,,and you use his ability to charge and add 2 to your strength and miss your next turn. are you able to encounter the other card and take the object,,,or does missing the encounter count as your lost turn??

Looking at the rules, looks like you could do some gamey things with the Highlander on multiple draw spaces. Str Enemy + Craft Enemy, charge Str Enemy, miss your turn means you end your current turn, so no psychic combat, but the Craft Enemy still counts against miss your turn, so would only skip that, normal go next turn. That is assuming "lose your turn" = miss next turn.

This is a good combination.

He can skip his losing turn if he draw more cards on a space and use his ability lengua.gif

This makes it more interesting to get the +2 in battle.

exactly. all other cards ive seen so far say miss or lose a turn. highlander specifically says NEXT turn. we all know what the word NEXT means, dont we?

I cannot tell who is being ironic and who isn't, but this issue came up during a game I played yesterday. My understanding was this:

If the Highlander charges, he will still encounter the rest of the space (craft enemies, objects, etc.) Otherwise he would not be following the instruction to miss his next turn . Therefore, I do not believe the "turn ends immediately" rules apply to the Highlander's charging ability. An official clarification would be nice, though.

On the other hand, if you think in terms of flavor, it would make sense that he charged and became exhausted, and therefore could not encounter the rest of the space. So, I could see this work either way. If his turn does end immediately, then I think they chose poor wording.

yes, unfortunately, poor wording is the norm for this game...or maybe its not. maybe we should play it exactly as it says. miss ur NEXT turn. ive looked and no other card says NEXT. THEY ALL SAY MISS OR LOSE A TURN. any thoughts on the difference in wording used by the objects rune sword, fate stealer and spellsword versus ice fang , frost razor and the new object in highland ( cant remember the name ) . the first 3 say to cause a loss of life to use the objects ability while the last 3 simply say to CHOOSE to take a life
