B1 Tank pilot/commander/driver poll

By Atromix, in Star Wars: Legion

Hey everyone!

Recently, against all odds, I have been able to obtain an AAT and I'm now faced with a conundrum. I want to have the turret hatch open and the droid in it however i'm not too sure how I want to mark the droid. I am pretty obsessive when it comes to adhering to cannon in most cases so I have 3 options to chose from.

1. Battle Droid Commander with yellow markings,

2. AAT Driver with green markings, now called the Kashyyyk battle droid for some reason?

3. Battle Droid Pilot with blue markings, shown in this beautiful example by @54NCH32

I'm torn between these three choices so I'd be interested to know whats your guys opinion on the subject?

Also on a side note, I'm curious as to how you paint your B1s, I've done two squads using Sorastro's method with contrast on top of an airbrushed base but I'm considering stripping them down and retrying.

Thanks!

Honestly, I'd go with something that fits your AAT paint scheme. If you're painting the tank CIS blue, the droid could go with a pilot blue scheme to match it. If you're going for the usual Trade Federation off-white and brown, then perhaps the yellow OOM color scheme would fit better.

I'd go with the Batlle Droid Commander with yellow markings.

The main motive is because it's how it's seen in the movies, which is always my number one refference.

Cannonically the blue one won't fit as they are pilots, it don't belong out there commanding (altought it looks cool on those colors), and the camo one, I'm not pretty sure, but it would make more sense for them to be out there and only for forest-like regions.

EDIT: also, congratulations on getting the AAT, I'm very eager to get one since they were announced!

The second one looks like yellow in shadow, not green.

He's talking about the one on the left, which is definitely green. Like this:

?imw=637&imh=358&ima=fit&impolicy=Letter

Ha, yeah, I did think this, but I was so bored of paintin' yellow heads. :D

I like the blue tbh amd wpuld probably do this myself when I get round to clone wars era. I'd go with something that contrasts with the main colour. If I did a blue tank say, I'd do the droid differently, perhaps red. etc.

For speed and smooth end result, I spray mine with Humbrol desert tan (any "tan/sand" spray would work well), - add markings / weapons etc - wash with 50/50 Agrax earthshade / lahmian meduim (the medium is key to getting a lighter wash result), then a bit of quick screaming skull drybrush lightlight.

Job done and just as fast/easy as any contrast route.

@54NCH32

First I try not to adhere to any cannon. I don't even try to touch it as they tend to get scalding hot when fired. 🤪

But I think the best looking one is the blue pilot even if it doesn't follow canon color coding for aat pilot droids. All other pilot droids and drivers were blue.

Ah got it; apparently it's camo for forest worlds (according to wookieepedia)

Yeah it's strange why they changed it to that, despite the fact that the only times we ever see them are in AATs, alongside regular, non-green B1s and often not on forest worlds. So I just still call them by their original designation as it makes a whole lot more sense imo.

Well, fwiw, I’ll be doing traditional yellow on mine 🙂

I would do commander. For regular B-1 squads I won't oaint the leader as a commander. Just a normal B-1 maybe with a single small line or something on the base to denote leader
