mods are gone, pocketmodel thread

By Kyle Ren, in X-Wing

for those of you who were not children at the hyperspecific time that this game was published, you may not be familiar with star wars pocketmodel.

it's basically a trading card game where you get ships in it that fold together from cardboard punchouts! it's actually really neat. The game itself is a little more boring to be honest. here's the rules

I've wondered for a long time if it would be possible to take the ships themselves and make a more interesting game out of it. It sure looks like these could be used as minis for a hex-based game. What's also neat is that they separate hit chance from damage for attacks, like @ForceSensitive is always talking about... hmm...

interestingly enough, there's tons of stock of this game on Amazon for MSRP still, I think they printed too much lol

Didn't you quit the forum a week ago?

Huh that brings back memories. I had bought a couple of things, got a container I think with all my models still in my closet somewhere. Never actually played it but the idea interested me.

Fair enough!

That was a horrible, horrible game, but some of the models were very cool. I bought tons of it back not long after it came out, they were marked down very cheap at Target. My son and I had run across it in store and bout some to try, didn’t much care for they game but ended up with more because it was cheap. They had some pretty cool tins with art that you could buy that had packs in them, I bought many of those just for the tins. X-Wing is not the first time the mistakes were made cartoon applies it seems.

I gotta say, for the mods being MIA, it's been pretty chill around here. Cheers, and thanks for the tag.

I remember them, but I never had any. That was around the time of the Pirates game they had back then. I think there was one or two other IPs that got those pocket model treatments. They're super cute, but I liked having something more enduring as a product. Those models were a pain to store. Don't remember liking the game much either.

On the combat mechanic, separating damage and accuracy, that's a pretty standard thing really. And while yes I'm a broken record on many quirky design things, this is just one of the more interesting ones of XWM.(Honestly I thought I talked more about hating tractors lol 😅 )

It's probably harder to find games that don't track damage and accuracy as separate items than as a weird amalgamation like X-wing.

Autocorrect, you try so hard

There is already a forum for these sorts of topics. It is called "Off-Topic." Mods or no mods this thread doesn't go here. One Imp. Advisor on the boards is enough though this post does score low on the "shilling" scale.
