Deck advice

By maniakmedic, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

OK guys, I need some advice on a deck I'm working on. I've been calling it "Not Just a Shield": Captain America Aggression centered on Jarnbjorn.

The issue I'm having is that it just feels like it bogs down. Though that could just be because I've been trying to play it against Rhino Expert with Standard and Legions of Hydra (I rolled a die to get that one).

This is what I have so far.

The big thing I'm going for is having plenty of Physical resources to feed to Jarnbjorn. I have tried it with Enhanced Physique, but since that's just a less good version of Super-Soldier Serum and none of them actually made it onto the table I pulled them out.

I'm using Hulk to soak some damage, so I'm considering tossing Nick Fury and putting in Mockingbird or Lockjaw. Mockingbird would be great with her stun function, but Lockjaw also works since I can just toss him as a resource and then pull him out of discard when I have more resources to spare. In any case, the more I can knock down Mental resources, the better off I'll be if I need Hulk to attack for some reason.

I've also been considering dropping Hall of Heroes. I love that card, but I have yet to get it to synergize with this deck. I either end up pulling it super early and then not pulling any minions to feed it, or I get a ton of minions and it's still buried in the deck (or I have to toss it for something more important, like Super-Soldier Serum). In that same vein, I can never seem to get Relentless Assault to pay off, but when I traded it for Uppercut, that was even worse. That one extra resource cost made a huge difference.

I put Chase Them Down in because, as we all know, Aggression sucks at Thwarting.

Of course, the biggest problem is that Jarnbjorn often doesn't show up very early and I haven't been able to make the card draw improve so I have a better chance of drawing into it. I could throw in Avengers Mansion, but there's the issue with that pesky Mental resource and the cost.

I kind of think that part of the problem is that the card pool just doesn't have a deep enough card pool yet to really make a focused deck.

Though it's more likely that I'm just not good at deckbuilding.

Suggestions?

hall of heroes, and one relentless assault for two enraged.

I was considering throwing in Enraged.

I think you are too concerned about physical resources. Super Soldier Serum is all you need to power Jarnbjorn so while physical resources is good, you dont need useless cards like 3 combat training. You are better off build your deck normally with good cards and just let super soldier serum do the work.

-1 combat training
-1 endurance (honestly, with ready effects and down time, you don't need it)
-1 Relentless Assault
-2 Power of Aggression (you don't have enough 2+ cost aggression cards for these to give value)

+1 Avengers Mansion
+1 Mockingbird
+ 3 Battle Fury (or 2 Battle Fury and 1 Counter Attack)

I would even consider replacing all relentless assault and possibly 1 chase them down (if in multiplayer) for Skilled Strike and Counter Attack (or cut one of these and keep endurance in, if you really like the card).

With Battle Fury and ability, you could attack 3 times, giving you 3 opportunities to use Jarnbjorn. 2 physical would come from super soldier serum, and the 3rd could come from hand. Tho attacking twice and thwarting once is probably more practical.

Needs more allies. Drop that combat training to 1 of, you don’t need anymore if this isn’t multiplayer.

Hercules is baseline cheaper for Cap and a physical resource for Jarnbjorn if you really needed it. Same thing for Lockjaw. Same for Mockingbird.

I’d also include Tigra and Heimdall just because Cap can make them relatively cheap to play.

Rhino has 4 minions, Legions of Hydra adds 3.

Yeah, I need to add more allies. Even if for nothing other than as blockers while I get set up.

I had this built and tested for episode 8 (2 weeks time) but it uses Dr. Strange cards so I'm not sure if you have access to those. I like Derrault's suggestion of heimdall or hercules for additional ally support. Between skilled strike and mean swing you often hit very hard with the deck. I like counter-attack with jarnbjorn.

Personally I still find relentless invaluable but I understand the concern it's a dead card in some scenarios or contexts. I'm not really married to upper cuts either but some turns I wanted to hit harder and faster with the left over resources and didn't have a card so I put it back in.

Aggression decks do tend to be less reliant on allies, but they are still important. Since Aggression decks don't really defend, even high hp pools last only so long, so without allies you will have to spend a bunch of time in AE and recovering.

That said, ironically, I think Cap can probably best get away with a low ally deck as he can defend for 3, ready, and then attack/thwart.

Sadly I don't yet have access to Dr. Strange 😭 But when it does get here I'll definitely be giving Skilled Strike a try in the deck. I'd also love to get my hands on Drop Kick from the Hulk pack.

I've had issues getting Counterattack to work in the deck (which is why I dropped it to one of and added more Combat Trainings; the CTs were more useful). I don't know why. It could be that the entire deck itself is just not as focused as it should be.

Has anybody added the spoiled aspect cards from the Hulk deck to TTS and where would I find those? I want to see how Drop Kick and You'll Pay for That! work in this deck now that I've changed it up.

I don't know if they exist there but you could just proxy via pre-emptive strikes and tackles. as the resources match up in the mean time. Those sound like strong additions, though given the amount of stun I'm not sure in solo how often you'll pay for that will line up.

Well, this is the new deck. Just a few proxy cards for stuff that hasn't been released yet:

Chase Them Down>"You'll Pay for That!"

Relentless Assault> Drop Kick

Uppercut>Skilled Strike

This deck can hit hard. Drop Kick is such a great card. I steamrolled over Expert Rhino with the Standard and Agents of Hydra modules largely because of that, Heroic Strike, and Skilled Strike.

In the deck editor, there is a button called pack filters. There you can unlock cards from unreleased packs (BW, DS, and Hulk)

Ah, right. I will do that.
