By BrooklynMike, in CoC Organized Play

OK, CoC fans, let's see who has the baddest, scariest deck of all! Here are all the details you need, and a question:

Where: The Compleat Strategist, 11 East 33rd Street (btwn 5th and Madison)

Registration: Pre-reg at the Strat in person or phone (212) 685-3880

Cost: $15 a player

Prizes and Goodies: As per the FFG regional tournament kit PLUS all registered players get a 20% discount on all in-store purchases at the Strat that day!

Info: Contact me here or @ [email protected]

QUESTION FOR PLAYERS (and FFG): Is the Secrets of Arkham set legal? If so, can players use the new story card deck (I would say so if both players agree, but let's see what FFG says)

See you there!

(Brooklyn) Mike Willner

Got clarification on the match / round rules:

If the round expires during a game the game is discarded and doesn't count towards the match results.

If both players have 1 match each when the round expires then it is a draw.

Thanks for the clarification. As for timing, does the round end at exactly 50 minutes, or is there something like "Time's up - each player gets X more turns"?

I'm thinking we should give 20 minute and 10 minute warnings. But say you are up 1 - 0 and we call 10 min, you are just going to drag your feet and play very SLLLOOOOOWWWWW to run out the clock. Boring and annoying.

We could try saying at 50 minutes you are playing your last match and then you are done. So if you are 1 - 1 we avoid draws, if you are down 0 - 1 you can push hard to salvage a draw, and if you are up 1 - 0 you have to play to the wire to defend your lead.

I'll ask FFG if that is an acceptable alternative and then take a poll of the players present. It will mean the rounds will tend to be longer but I bet not that much longer.

Regarding round structure: We will take a vote among the players for the following options:

1) When 50 min is up play stops, in progress games are discarded and the score is taken of completed games.

2) When 50 min is up the current game is completed then score is taken

I contacted FFG and either are acceptable.

Final ruling from FFG on story card decks: Only use CORE SET story card decks for the regionals.

Any chance you can put up a scan of the deck list sheets so that we can copy them and fill them out in advance?

I mean, I can just type something up anyway, but if there is a format that makes it easier for you, then I'd be happy to comply.

You can just make an MS Word doc with a table in it and fill it in, probably easier then taking the scanned image.

Official word from FFG: The Whisperers in the Dark asylum pack is legal for the regionals.

Getting psyched! Just finished my deck, sleeving the cards now. Can't wait to see just how far off or right on my deck strategy is.

If you want to share your strategy, I'd be happy to give feedback :-)

Oh, I'll share alright ... right after we shuffle and cut!

Actually, I'm a pretty lousey card player but really love to play. I'm just excited that I have an IDEA in the first place.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. I'm bringing sets, extra sleeves, everyone's getting goodies from the Strategist, and don't forget that you get a 20% discount on all purchases.

I am looking forward to it!

I always get stuck between making a deck that has a cool theme from a story point of view as opposed to a deck that can win games... And even in events like tomorrow's, I have two decks prepared - one that is "cool" and one that has a better chance of maybe winning a game.

I have exactly the same problem. I grooved on the Gugs for a while because I thought they were cool and there are a bunch of them but they really didn't work for me at all in game terms. So many great cards, you got to just chuck the urge to win once in a while (not tomorrow) and give them a try.

Don't forget the after-party: whichever deck you decide to play, you can give the other one a go if you join us.

Yes... It sounds intriguing, but I still have a 3 hour trip home after the event.... not sure how tired I will be feeling.

Had a great time at a wonderfully organized event! Met lots of nice people and had a wonderful time. Thanks Mike and everyone else there!

Three cheers for the NYC Regionals participants! ia! ia! ia!

We've heard from Champion The Professor, Servitor Brooklyn Mike, and me. Any other competetors wish to share their story?

You know who you are Kellen, Tim, Will, John, and Ray.
