[HS, GR] 3D7CLT & N-1(PS&PT)

By muzhyou, in X-Wing Squad Lists

It's very interesting that I barely see such a list post in List Fortress - or I've done a wrong way for searching.

Anyway, that's not the point and just let me share my Galactic Rebulic squad list.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (48)
Calibrated Laser Targeting (4)
Ship total: 52 Half Points: 26 Threshold: 2

Plo Koon (44)
Calibrated Laser Targeting (4)
Ship total: 48 Half Points: 24 Threshold: 2

Ahsoka Tano (44)
Calibrated Laser Targeting (2)
Ship total: 46 Half Points: 23 Threshold: 2

Anakin Skywalker (N-1 Starfighter) (41)
Passive Sensors (3)
Plasma Torpedoes (9)
Ship total: 53 Half Points: 27 Threshold: 3

Total: 199

This is the squad I recommanded for any Republic newish players.

The basic strategy is 2 rottes outflanking.

Ahsoka flies with Ani in the middle (start position: Ahsoka should be about 1.5 small base backwards).

Obi-Wan flies with Plo-Koon at the corner.

Just out of curiosity, why would you recommend NI Ani to a new player over Ric or a few torrents at that price range? I feel like the torrents would better help new players understand the art of blocking.

Torrents aren't in hs and force points are good

Yeah, Torrents aren't in Hyperspace is one of the points why they are not in the squad.

And besides, let me just say that it is easier for a player to fly a squad in which each ships are designed with the same or at least, a similar main strategy.

I don't want to push this point because each player may have their own way to play and to enjoy, but I'd like to explain a little here to make it clear why I build this combination.

First of all, I use D7CLT as the main part of the squad.

As I understood, D7CLT is a ship performs better in close-ranged dogfighting, but lacks firepower outside the bullseye arc and in the long shots.

The weakness should be covered, better with a ship also performs well in close-ranged dogfighting - and that's Ani.

N-1 may equip torpedoes, offering amazing firepower against targets in range 2-3. However, most of them are not good with a 1-maneuver-turn-round - they only have speed 3 Talon-turn - and that does need space. 2 reds and 2 greens with a torpedo upgrade - N-1 is more likely a ship that is suitable to play hit and away. Besides, new players are always easy to falling a trap of the Full-Throttle - they will execute as many speed 3-5 maneuvers as they can, becoming easier for veteran players to guess.

Ani is the exception. His pilot ability allows him to barrel-roll without performing an action rightly before he reveals the dial, and with the help of Ahosoka, he may even barrel-roll to left or right with a distance of speed 3 (two speed 1 plus a small base). That makes him possible to perform incredibly well in a close-ranged dogfighting, locking down a target at its 3 or 9.

There is also another reason I think Ani is better than Ric for a new player.

That is, Ric's pilot ability and ship ability look so cool, making a new player could not stop to execute speed 3-5 maneuvers, trying to triger the abilities all the time - and find it is useless because the opponent may do the same and make Ric a 2 reds and 2 greens ship as usual, while Ric's maneuver also becomes easy to guess. And if Ric speeds down to speed 2 or 1, his pilot ability will be even harder to triger, and how could he perform better than Ani while Ani may move before executing the maneuver?

This is why I recommended Ani.
