Wall of Bones spell question

By Phantom0576, in Realms of Terrinoth

Im new to the Genesys system and had a question about the wall of bones spell for the necromancer. It says you can spend three threats or a despair to reflect attack dmg back at the attacker. In the core rule book for barrier you can only reflect spell dmg. Is it just flavor for the necromancer or a misprint.

Most likely a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. RoT and the CRB were in development at around the same time, so it's very possible that an early version of Reflection worked on all attacks and was changed after the necromancer was designed. Or it could be that the author of the necromancer just didn't read the Reflection effect properly. No way to know for sure, unfortunately.

In any case, it's best if you follow the CRB Reflection so your players don't get upset that the adversary can do something they can't. Unless, of course, you add a new ability for the necromancer that makes it work on all attacks 😉

The answer to this question is that NPCs can have abilities that PCs can't normally have. In this case, this NPC has a spell that works somewhat differently than a normally cast spell.

Thanks was just wondering.

One tip regarding reflect. If it only effects magic attack it is slightly redundant at least as a GM to add to barrier.

If you look at table 2-4 on page 211 3 threats or despair can be used by the GM to pick the target of the spell. But ofc reflect on top of this will be kind of nasty 😀

Note that the three threats in the table say another character is affected as well . Meaning the spell still hits the intended target. This option for Barrier makes it target the other character only . Small but important difference.
