House Rules

By Cable2, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

Does everyone play by-the-book or do you have rules tweaks you use?

For example, and it is a pretty minor change, but when I play I never allow a mulligan. I think you should have to live or die by that opening draw.

Mulligan already has punishments so doing so isn’t already without consequences. You can only do it once and the cards dropped from it stay in the discard pile meaning your closer to going through your deck and getting an acceleration token.

Nope. Game works as designed.

You don't get an acceleration toke for emptying the player deck, you get dealt an encounter card. You only get an acceleration token for emptying the encounter deck.

I have played quite a few games at a “standard +” (standard villain phases plus expert encounter cards) level or “expert -“ (Expert villain phases sans the expert encounter cards) level. Gives a nice little tweak to difficulty!

It has a cost but why don't they let you pay that cost as many times as you want? There is a reason they only will allow it once, and the same line of reasoning makes me feel it should actually be zero. But someone else could just as easily feel they should be allowed more. Whatever works best for you.

For the wrecking crew, I often randomly assign the amount of the hit points and threat for the four villains for more variety.

wait have i been playing wrong all this time? i thought you only draw an extra encounter card for going through your deck, and acceleration tokens were only when the villain goes through their deck?

Sounds right! I think somebody above may have misspoken.

That's correct, but drawing extra encounter cards will lead to an acceleration token faster, so Hyperjayman isn't technically wrong.

I got the two switched up which is weird since I’ve never played it that way. My bad.

I was doubting all reality for a minute there! lol

Not really a "house rule" but more of a "house keeping" trick we use: In playing multiplayer with Ultron we have found that it is sometimes difficult to keep track of which drone was generated from which Hero's deck...especially with Thor pulling enemies to him. I give everyone some kind of marker tokens to identify cards drones from their deck. I pull them from some other game...Pandemic works well due to the 4 different color cubes that are unlike any Marvel Champions tokens.
