Actually Competitive Clones

By lologrelol, in Army Building

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Force Reflexes, Saber Throw, Tenacity)
R2-D2
Phase I Clone Troopers
Phase I Clone Troopers
Phase I Clone Troopers
Arc Troopers (Strike Team) (DC-15x ARC Trooper)
Arc Troopers (Strike Team) (DC-15x ARC Trooper)
Arc Troopers (Strike Team) (DC-15x ARC Trooper)
AT-RT (AT-RT Flame Thrower)
AT-RT (AT-RT Flame Thrower)
AT-RT (AT-RT Flame Thrower)

Thoughts?

This list has too little firepower. I think it will easily get outshot as the ATRT won't be in range until probably turn 3.

I think we will see RTs be most effective without a hardpoint. Having clone fire support the 2 white and 1 black with surge to hit can be very effective. I think this list would be fun to play, but if the troopers get focused you will have a hard time winning objectives.

Why would you not get a hardpoint on the RTs? They're fairly cheap and give them a way bigger punch.

To the OP list, I like the list but I've found that Obiwan, while an incredibly powerful unit, isn't worth his cost for clones as he doesn't work well with them nearly as much as Rex. If you get Rex with a few upgrades instead you'd prolly have the points for another clone unit and maybe a heavy weapon. And as far as the clone RT flamethrowers go, do not take them off. Keep flamethrower on them no matter what. Not getting a hardpoint doesn't seem like a great idea to me because then they're so weak without one, laser cannon is basically useless with hardly any vehicles in the meta. Rotary blaster seems like a waste since they already have a meh range 3 weapon but flamethrower in incredibly powerful. If you can set up a good gunline with your clones then your RTs can go and flank your enemy's forces and surround them, then melt them. Also, another reason flamethrower is a must have is the blast keyword combined with firesupport. Super handy

Because Republic lacks options and what they have is expensive. They need to cut points everywhere they can. AT-RT x 3 with Hardpoints is 60 points more than without. That is a unit of Phase 2 Clone troopers.

Here's my Rex list. What do you think @Mokoshkana @bllaw @weebaer

Clone Captain Rex (Aggressive Tactics, Recon Intel)
R2-D2
Phase I Clone Troopers (Z-6 Phase I Trooper, Phase I Clone Trooper)
Phase I Clone Troopers (Z-6 Phase I Trooper, Phase I Clone Trooper)
Phase I Clone Troopers (Z-6 Phase I Trooper, Phase I Clone Trooper)
Arc Troopers Squad (DC-15x ARC Trooper, Overwatch, Targeting Scopes)
Arc Troopers Squad (DC-15x ARC Trooper, Overwatch, Targeting Scopes)
AT-RT (AT-RT Flame Thrower)
AT-RT (AT-RT Flame Thrower)

Looks really nice. If you wanted to squeeze in one more clone activation I think you could by dropping all the personel, the targeting scopes, and one overwatch but those upgrades can be really useful. If you keep the upgrades though 9 activations is still very powerful for Republic atm. Really like the list

If the goal is to be competitive, you need to decide what part of the game you're going to tilt in your favor. You will never win the activation.battle until you destroy enemy units. Naked atrt give you cheapish activations a d their grenade launcher is not as bad as its made out to be. You can try to play super defensive but you would need Padme and Rex to bhild up tokens and bad dice will still kill you.

Super aggressive clones is going to be a thing. We'll have to wait and see what the arcs can do there. Honestly for that type of list, i would take Obiwan and 3 flamer chickens. Who wouldn't be nervous about that coming at them. Id also take minimum P1 and fit the ARCs for melee with jetpacks. They fight really well in melee except against pierce and can get tokens easily as well.

Is that a big unit of ARCs with the scopes? I'd think most of the time you'd want your aim for lethal.

@buckero0 I thought spending the aim just meant you spend it to get an aim bonus? As in when you make the attack and use an aim, then after re-rolls, before saves, you apply pierce 1.

You may check the Rules PDF, but I think when the AIM is spent, it's gone, so you would need 2 Aim tokens; spend 1 to get Re-rolls and spend a 2nd to get Lethal

Buckero0 is correct, you get to either roll the 2 dice for the aim token, OR you can spend it and gain lethal. Not both.

Sounds pretty underpowered to me, since rebs/imps get pierce natively on their snipers.

Guess it's another example of the designers shooting themselves in the foot, because there's no way I'll be running clone snipers now.

Why not? They have the best attack, sharpshooter, and they can token share, and can have offensive push. You will be hitting with 2 dice WAY more than with the reb or emp snipers. If the aim token did both they would be broken and there would NEVER be a reason to have anything less than 3 snipers in your list. This way they are still very strong, but they aren't so good that you are not even interested in branching out to other things.

They have sharpshooter?

And I didn't consider the colours of dice, whoops.

this is what makes clone snipers the most effective snipers now. They've got the best dice out of the snipers and sure they have to spend a dodge to gain pierce BUT that doesn't mean they can't aim cause you can just "borrow" an aim from one of your fellow clones. double hits will be common for these dudes

I can't get a hit on my Rebel dice - so much that I have a hard time running snipers in general on them. i can't wait for the Weequay sniper for the Mercenary Faction. Lethal and Marksman and Jabba will have tactical 3 but no way to move unless you take the Pallate upgrade
