What is next??

By Gupa-nupa, in X-Wing

Looking for some advice on what my next purchase should be. I have been trying to keep each of my factions balanced (I currently play sep, reb, and imp), both in terms of number of ships and ship value. Right now my collection includes.

- Core Set

- X wing

- Y wing

- Tie fighter

- Tie advanced

- Vulture Droid

- Hyena Bomber

- B wing

- Nantex

- A wing

- Defender

- Servents of strife

- Hotshots and aces

I am looking for any holes in my collection and general advice on what to pick up next. I have been considering either the inquisitor's tie of the tie interceptor. Which one would you pick or am I on the wrong course...

~Thanks

Also I realized that I neglected to mention that I am trying not to buy 1.0 ships. I'd rather avoid the hassle of trying to convert them.

Inquisitors TIE and/or VT 49 Decimator

inquisitor's tie absolutely .... my favorite ship.... for 35 points generic inquinitos are amazing fillers! they refuse to dye! also the named pilots are great!

try to pick one and you will buy another for shure!

So I would get the inquisitor before the interceptor. Right now the interceptor is Soontir Fel and there are some sloane lists with the generic option whereas there are multiple inquistor builds. The inquisitor is also fun to fly and more forgiving.

Looking at your collection your Rebels are in good shape but if you only have one, you may want another B-Wing. I wouldn't suggest the Ghost or the Falcon at this time but I suspect they will both get better.

For Separatists you may want the Sith infiltrator but I don't play them so I don't have a lot of insight.

The Empire is where you have the most options. The inquisitor s what I would suggest first and then the interceptor when it releases after that:

VT-49 includes Vader and fifth brother two of the best crew in the game

TIE Striker is a lot of fun to fly and Duchess is legitimately good with fifth brother upgrade

TIE Reaper has 2.0 upgrades in the box. its an underrated support ship Vermeil and Feroph are fun. I'm not as keen on Saw's renegades for the rebels as it doesn't include Cassian.

At a certain point I wouldn't worry about keeping everything balanced. The separatists are a much smaller range and new stuff is incoming. Your rebels are in good shape. The Empire is definitely where you collection has room to grow.

Inquisitors Tie fits in just about any empire list. 41pt missile carrier, 40pt sense inqisitor, 52pt naked Grand Inquisitor, 50pt Homing Missile with passive sensors 5th bro, 59pt super natural 7th sister.

I too would recommend getting a Tie Adv. V1 as your next ship. A lot more of the pilots have proven to be viable and good to great compared to the Interceptor being really limited to Soontir being great.

After that, pick up a Tie Striker.

Another Droid to get a second Discord Missile would help make your Seps a lot stronger. You might want to consider a Sith Infiltrator to add something different to your Sep lists.

TIE Advanced v1 is probably better value, and you've got Fifth Brother from Hotshots and Aces, who's the best pilot for it, already so you're set there.

But honestly I'm going to disagree with everyone else here and say get the TIE Interceptor. Yes it 'only' has Fel, but Fel is some of the most fun you can have in the game. Especially casually. Also it's a classic. It's a movie ship. It's the coolest Imperial fighter and it looks amazing on the table.

Also, it doesn't only have Fel. Get a second and you've got the makings of a Sloane Swarm with two Alphas.

Other than that, the TIE Striker is amazing fun too. And a very cool model. And you can easily get by with just one.

But after that, you really need to get a Falcon. Just because, y'know, it's the Millennium Falcon .

I would vote for the Interceptor as well, mostly because it’s a movie ship.

  • TIE/v1 Advanced is pretty good, due to the Force (don't bother with the non-force generic). The force is just so much easier than not-the-force. Strap on a missile and a lock-based System upgrade (Fire Control System or Passive Sensors), and you've got a really solid ship.
  • I've typically had fun with the Rebel Falcon. Han, Lando, and Leia are all pretty solid and unique.
  • I suppose either the TIE Interceptor or TIE Striker. Soontir and Duchess are *great* pilots for the ships.
    • Pure Sabacc is kinda cool, but Duchess is probably the best first Striker, since Ailerons have a bit of a learning curve. Maybe you'll take to them right off, but if you find you're messing up your moves, Duchess' ability to not-Ailerons (or to Ailerons while stressed) is pretty handy.
    • Soontir is the Platonic Ideal of an ace. Squishy, but with the tools to avoid getting shot.
    • Generic Strikers and Interceptors can work decently, but the take some practice, and take a list with some weight-of-fire behind it.
  • Also worth considering: TIE Reaper and Saw's Renegades. These are look like they might be 1e ships, but they've got all the 2e materials in there. For all intents and purposes, these are 2e ships.
    • None of the stuff in Saws is off-the-wall amazing, but it's all at least decent, plus more X-Wings is usually a good thing.
      • U-Wing as part of a squad with a few X/Y/B/A is also pretty good.
    • The TIE Reaper is a really fast crew carrier ship, with a decent statline for the price. All the pilots are good in their own way.
