Strategy Articles suggestions? No video please.

By Cpt ObVus, in X-Wing

Over at Armada, we have some excellent plastic spaceship journalism. For example, there are a couple of guys at a site called “Cannot Get Your Ship Out” who do deep dives on literally every ship, every upgrade, every everything in the game, and it’s helpful for new players and veterans looking for new ideas alike.

I’ve been looking for a similar set of (hopefully well-organized) strategy articles for X-Wing, and while I’ve found a couple of sites that claim to do deep-dive strategy articles, I’ve mostly found people simply repeating the words on the card and giving very obvious surface-level observations. And quite a few articles say things like, “Here’s this Imperial ship. I don’t play Imperials, but...”

Are there any sites that offer insightful articles on all aspects of the game for all seven factions?

EDIT: I really prefer reading to watching strategy videos, unless someone has found a way to do some really high-quality videos. Even then, it’s often better to have some reading to do. Can’t really watch videos while helping the kids do homework or whatever.

Biophysical has some solid stuff here also. https://starfightermafia.blogspot.com/?m=1

So does GreenDragoon! https://greendragoon.home.blog/

These two seems to be the most concerned with strategy. Biophysical's blog is nearly 100% strategy. GreenDragoon's has a lot of strategy blogs in there with battle reports becoming the more frequent blogs now.

Try reading some X-Wing blogs.

I appreciate the shout out here. We scrubs tend to write about whatever crossed our mind in X-wing, sometimes strategy, sometimes community, sometimes batrep, sometimes complaining, but I will in particular recommend these two posts for strategy:

Turn Zero Guide (Part 1)

Turn Zero Guide (Part 2)

They are slightly out of date for obstacle placement as droids and gas clouds have come out since then, but all of the rest should be relevant.

I have another blog in the works for target priority coming out soon, so keep a look out for that.

Starfightermafia is the maybe best blog in that regard.

There's also the space owl blog

My own is mainly battle reports. I would like to write about other things - and my next post will be called "Tricks Tactics Strategies" - but I had some very busy months now, and just never got around to finish anything. Soon(tm)

I used to post about xwing tactics, but then hyperspace got the extended thanos snap two separate times.

Actually I would love this opportunity to get some input. When I hear strategy in the context of X-Wing, here is what I think about:

  • Meta analysis
  • List choice, counterbuilds
  • to understand your own list's strengths and weaknesses in general, and in specific matchups
  • to asses your opponent's list for their strengths and weaknesses, and deriving target priorities
  • To formulate a game plan with few branches, depending on your opponent's choices
  • Turn 0, including obstacle selection, obstacle placement, ship placement, openings
  • Openings gets a second mention:
    • against general list archetypes (e.g. swarms, arcdodger lists, jousters)
    • against specific lists (currently: Droid swarm, BoFrost, 5X, ...)
    • the first 2-3 turns with some alternatives/ways to react to a small number of choices by your opponent

That's what I consider strategy in X-wing. Your question, @Cpt ObVus , is about the third: to understand strengths and weaknesses of individual pilots and within the context of a list. My thing is (was) meta analysis and list choice. I want my new thing to be the last 4 bullet points, with a strong focus on turn 0/openings, but no clue if I'll ever get there.
