Shapeways Miniature Scale

By Chamberlin, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hello Everyone, I'm getting close to finishing out my Imperial Assault collection so now I'm turning my gaze towards third party miniatures. My favorites so far have been from the EU & Rogue One sculpts Skull Forge Studios & Mel Miniatures. Unfortunately most of the sculpts that I like fall under the "Legion" or "1/47" sections of their Shapeways stores. My question for the community then is, has anyone purchased any of the Legion or 1/47 scale miniatures from either studio and if so how do they compare to the IA sculpts?

Thanks in advance!

There is disparagement with some and parity with others. Later releases of IA miniatures tend towards the 1/47 scale vice 1/50. If the Legion minis are based on IA height bases (which are half a thin as Legion bases) then they look closer, in some case perfectly aligned with Imperial Assault. Likewise, custom base IA miniatures that use thicker bases don't look as bad. In a lot of cases it the same disparity that IA has over WOTC miniatures, which I think were around 1/52. There is a thread on these forums where people have taken a variety of photos, including myself, to show the difference. It looks like it is still in my existing attachments. It is hard to tell these two because Boba's pose is much different in Legion, but if you look at the gun and the helmet, they are very similar in size.

Small figures look fine if you put them on an IA-size base. My legion Leia and legion royal guards on ia bases look great next to my other IA figures.

I got the IA-size Zuckuss and 4-LOM from Mel's Miniatures. The scale is exactly the same as the Core IA. For example, 4-LOM has the same body and size as the FFG's C-3PO.

On the other hand, I also got the Mandalorian and Cara Dune from Skull Forge and they are bit bigger than the usual IA miniatures. Though Tvboy has a good point, on an IA-size base you won't notice the difference much

Just wondering, which miniatures you want that are not in the Imperial Assault section?

I'd say that all the minis that are offered for the Legion scale. If that's too much, then the ones related to the Mandalorian show and the Clone Wars/Prequels characters.

By the way, thanks for asking.

Hi Mel,

I'll second the call for any of your Mandalorian minis, but I also was looking at some of your EU minis. Specifically Kyle Katarn (what? no Jan?! 😉 ), Mara Jade, and Jaina Solo.

@melminiatures there'll be a bunch of new cards made every 3-4 months in IACP that may need custom figures. Would love to talk to you more about it, but I can't send you a PM here. Could you contact me at iacontinuityproject@gmail.com? Thanks.

Here you go people, a huge update on my catalogue. Happy Star Wars Day

I want to get the Gungan Jedi and Maul with the spider body. I was so disappointed in Rebels that they didn't give Maul the claw footed legs, rather than just regular looking mechanical legs.

Very nice! That's a lot of lightsabres! Maybe if we get an IA box set in the High Republic days there could be a full on Jedi battle using minis like these! Pretty cool.

Do you have any Ewoks? My daughter would go crazy for an Ewok character... been thinking of getting something and just designing my own cards.

Forget that question... I see that you DO have an Ewok figure! Nice!

Hi,

I would like to acquire some minis (1/47 Units) but I have a few doubts:
1) Is it possible to do them in the "imperial assault" scale?
2) Is there any discount for buying some (about 15)?

Many thanks,

@Arknur - Mel has minis in multiple scales and most (if not all) of his 1/47 minis are also now in IA scale after this awesome update. If you see a figure you like in the 1/47 scale if you copy its name and do a quick search you should be able to get results for each of the scales it is in, just select the one whose name includes (IA) in the title.
