Republic on a bugdet

By 97Starvipper, in Star Wars: Legion

Hello there everyone,

I'm new to the legion community. My dad and brother got the original (Rebellion and Empire) core set recently and have been having a lot of fun playing the game. I'm interested in the Republic faction in this game (also love the republic in X wing). How mandatory is the Clone wars core set to get started in this game? I'm think maybe spending roughly $100 to 125 to get started in this game. What would get me the best bang for my buck?

With the original core set the clone wars isnt as necessary, but like the original core it is still the best raw value. 2 corps at $25 each is $50 per faction (so $100 in corps), commanders are $15 typically so $30 total (or $15 per faction)

Support BARC is $25, Droideka is $30

So even if only want Republic thats $90 plus barricades, dice, range rulers, and the separatist.

The best bang for buck for one faction is to go half and half on a core with someone who wants just droids.

Of course, this is also solely for "best bang for buck" not necessarily a "what you wish to play"

But the cheapest way to get a solid starting army would be for Republic is probably x2 half core sets (traded for droids) and maybe a Rex. That would hit your budget and give two commanders, 4 corps, two barcs. Is it the best? No, but it also fits the budget and can extend from there in future.

Core sets are the best bang for your buck, period.

Core sets are such a good value, I once bought one just for a single unit and sold the rest at a slight profit.

I'll go splitsies with you for the droid half of the core set. I would just need the unit-specific cards and command cards; I don't need any generic command cards, dice, movement tools or anything, I'm already set there.

Multiple Core sets = budget army

So far I've bought several core sets (7 total I think?) and always sold a few things from it, then realized I enjoyed playing the stuff I sold so I end up buying more to replenish the stuff I sold. Sometimes I think I'm done, then I find one on sale and it's too good of a deal not to buy. Rebel Imperial set for $50 -> I can't resist. Clone set for $65 and I'm there even if I don't want to be.

I too, lost track of how many core sets I have bought.

Indeed to go for coreset is the best starting point in this game.

Specially if you want to play republic. It is so easy to sell/trade the half part that contains the droids. Separatists players are always looking for more droids... And then even more droids :0)

Convince your dad to build a second faction. Swap two core sets with him. Buying toys and playing Star Wars is what dads are for.

Edit: Ooh! Ooh! @starviper2585 if your dad splits two core sets with you, he'll have a "historically accurate" faction to play against either kid, too!
