Sabine wren on a X-wing with the R7-T1 droid (1st ed question!)

By LTuser, in X-Wing Rules Questions

OK. SO i remember reading someone saying, that a ship cannot perform TWO of the same actions in a round, even if using PTL..

THIS IS A 1e question!

BUT does that apply when mixing up where/how the actions come from?
IE a rebel X-wing has the Sabine Wren pilot in, allowing them to take a FREE boost or barrel roll action, BEFORE they reveal their move dial. Then after they say "boost" via sabine. They get in range 2 of an enemy, and target lock it..

Can they then Boost again via the droid???

Yes it still applies no matter where the action comes from; no double boosting/any other action.

Wow.. I've been doing that wrong then in my play testing of HOTAC missions.. RATS.

Yep. The rules from the Rules book/reference are always applied, unless and ability specifically states that it overrides that rule in some way. For instance.

The statement (this is not an action) means if he uses his pilot ability to perform a barrel roll, it is not an action . So he hasnt perform an action, and thus isnt prevented from performing a barrel roll action when he is granted an action anytime during his turn. Its not specifically overriding the rule, but omitting "action" stating its only a barrel roll, thus kind of 'skirting around' the rule.

This is why its important to remember that effects and movements are separate from the abilities. Performing a Barrel roll Action tells you to simply Barrel roll. The action itself, doesnt outline the steps of it. Its the Barrel roll movement that has the steps for how to do the barrel roll. Same goes for 'gaining a focus token' vs performing a focus action. Performing a focus action tells the ship "hey, gain a focus token". Both of which abilitys can directly tell you to do, its just most of them tell you to perform the action for the explicit reason to enable restrictions (stress, 1 action limit, ionized, ect..)

If that makes sense.

Many thanks...
