Wingmate for Nym

By kewlguy360, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Captain Nym (48)
Dorsal Turret (3)
Proton Bombs (5)
Proximity Mines (6)
Havoc (2)
Trajectory Simulator (6)
"Genius" (2)

Ship total: 72 Half Points: 36 Threshold: 5

Total: 72

This Nym is fairly capable at releasing all 4 of his bombs and causing hard times for opponents

He does explode pretty fast though when focused fired

So he needs some capable wingmates to pull the pressure off and to compensate for nym's lost points

Captain Nym (48)
Dorsal Turret (3)
Proton Bombs (5)
Proximity Mines (6)
Havoc (2)
Trajectory Simulator (6)

Boba Fett (85)
Fearless (3)

Jakku Gunrunner (30)
Ship total: 30 Half Points: 15 Threshold: 3

Boba is really good and the tugboat can tractor small aces into bombing lanes

What other wingmates might be good?

First off, cut genius, it's trash.

Insurprisingly, Sol Sixxa is also a great wingman for Nym.

Let's have some fun with this and bring the Landoshan.

Some changes there for point cutting, but also 4 bombs and no mines, to give Nym more to Yeet, and also Seismics make for a good starting yeet against shielded opponents, harder to avoid.

I like running Sol next to Nym - in theory, as I've not got two of the buggers, ha ha. Just wanted to point out that if you are running Sol, you really want to find the points for Skilled Bombardier. That kind flexibility is kind of magical. Again, as I don't have two Scurrgs in my hangar, I might drop in a couple Y-Wings with Dorsal Turrets and Proton Bombs, and just about anything else that fits that remaining 55+/- points. Maybe a Kimogila for a touch more beef.

edit: So I had the morning free. I dropped Nym with title/TrajSim/Protons/Seismics/Dorsal, Torani with Snap Shot, and two Goons with Dorsal/Protons versus ReyPoe. Long story short, it's good - against slightly less-than-ultimately-maneuverable two-ship lists. The highlight was hitting Rey with three Proton Bombs on turn three. Ouch! There's enough health across the four ships to give them time to put in some work, and Nym's ability to hold bombs *really* does help. Torani ended the game at full health after Poe took down a Goon and Nym all by himself. I think a true Aces list - whether Imperial or Republic or First Order - would probably give this list a pretty strong challenge. But for casual night? Heh. You might not make any friends, but it is challenging and interesting. I might have to hang on to this one and try it against real people someday.

Scurrgs are my favorites and as mentioned above Sol is a great mate for Nym.

I’ve done a few games with Boba as a crew for Nym, example:

Captain Nym (48)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Boba Fett (4)
Seismic Charges (3)
Proton Bombs (5)

Ship total: 65 Half Points: 33 Threshold: 5

Talonbane Cobra (50)
Ship total: 50 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 3

Old Teroch (56)
Ship total: 56 Half Points: 28 Threshold: 2

Cartel Spacer (25)
Tractor Beam (3)

Ship total: 28 Half Points: 14 Threshold: 2

Total: 199

Deploy Nym backwards in the middle and drop a Seismic to cover 2-3 obstacles to goof up opponents opening rounds. You have 3 x I5 with a decent firepower and some nice control pieces. Also Nym is quite a lite-version here so it’s not an end of the world if (=when) he goes down. A tractor-Scyk as a filler but you could go for a budget version (e.g. MG TIE) also and maybe add crack shot, predator and contrabands on Talonbane and Teroch.

Speaking of lighter Nym loads, here's a list I've been meaning to fly at some point:

Captain Nym (48)
Proton Bombs (5)
Proximity Mines (6)

Ship total: 59 Half Points: 30 Threshold: 5

Sol Sixxa (46)
Skilled Bombardier (2)
Proton Bombs (5)
Proximity Mines (6)

Ship total: 59 Half Points: 30 Threshold: 5

Cartel Executioner (41)
Ship total: 41 Half Points: 21 Threshold: 5

Cartel Executioner (41)
Ship total: 41 Half Points: 21 Threshold: 5

Total: 200

Part of the idea here is that there's 4 medium base ships clogging up the lanes, and making evading bombs that much more difficult.
