I've never flown RAC so thought give it a try sometime. Put together an extended version and HS, though not many differences.

Sloane's just wicked good.

A third option which kind of splits the difference: cut Death Troopers for Minister Tua (swapping Shield for Hull gets there, and works better with Tua's mechanics). That gives you the late pick of Reinforce (just like Grand Inquisitor), but also keeps Sloane, which makes the TIEs a lot more of a threat.

I've never played with The Grand Inquisitor, but I've played against him, and he felt kind of inconsistent. A lot of time, enemy ships are just too far away when they reveal their dials, and you can't use TGI.

Inquisitor is HS legal in a shallow pool of HS crew for Empire. Second force could be handy early in the game if you’re getting shot at from afar. Could also use that force for Fifth Brother’s ability twice, though with the pilot ability that’s a little overkill.

Bah, to be sure. Slipped my mind.

Still, I just don't know that TGI is worth the cost. That said, I can't think of anything else to do with those points the list. Can't fly 2 TIEs 2 Strikers (unless giving up both TGI and Death Troopers). Got to give up both crew to fly more than one named TIE. Can't fit a TIE/x1 worth taking. I guess RAC could fit with 3x Strikers... Say... RAC (Ruthless, 5th Brother, Dauntless, Hull) + 3x Ruthless Black Scout Strikers. Totally different list with triple striker instead of a block of TIEs, but seems kinda nice in a way.

I also don't think you could use it for Fifth Brother's ability twice, because of once-per-opportunity. If RAC had some way to attack twice, he could use Fifth Brother on both of them, but he doesn't.

I'll add: The RAC list a friend of mine was flying, and I can't recall the exact upgrades, was RAC + Duchess + Maarek Stele.

This would fit:

  • Maarek (Fire Control System) 47
    • There aren't really talents worth taking for Empire in HS anyhow...
  • Duchess (Fifth Brother) 53
  • RAC (The Grand Inquisitor, Hull Upgrade, Proton Bomb, Dauntless) 100
    • Hull/Proton could be Tactical Officer, which might be nice. Maarek loves to Focus/Lock, and RAC is kind of fine with just Reinforce as his only action, if using TGI for double actions.

The list can hit hard at Init 5, and if they chase the aces, RAC probably is too thick to grind threw with what remains. If they get bogged down attacking RAC first, the aces can probably clean up.

Will never not recommend this list. Rac doesn’t need a bunch of upgrades when people have 5x ties to worry about. It’s an absolutely demoralizing list to fly against.

This looks fun but I think I’d rather have the TIEs than a naked Vader in this competitive landscape.

I’ll have the mull this one over. I like the fifth TIE for sure but love death troopers and Sloane working together.

RAC is great. I've been flying him a lot with Whisper. Vader is amazing on him because he either pushes damage through or strips tokens and weakens incoming attacks. Jerjerrod adds maneuverability, letting him boost + mine, block other ships, or just get better positioning. Shield/hull (depending on bid) is definitely MVP. It changes the half points threshold and can keep him alive for another round. He's a monster in furballs and has the tools to keep himself alive and deal with most other types of ships.

I really love whisper with stealth device and fifth brother + other upgrades that fit (specially juke and passive sensors/collision detector) In my opinion that build is the best ship from the ones I own (including 4 different factions). The action economy it has is so good that it can easily survive several shots of 3 or less red dice per game without losing the stealth device. She is a bit of a monster.

My main issue with her was what to pair her with, since whatever I chose seemed too easy to kill compared to Whisper, so I ended up chosing RAC just like you. This list is so fun... One of my favorites, despite winning with two ships can be challenging at times. Just keep Whisper from receiving any damage and that will be the key.

Hide Duchess behind her reinforced retinue (don't forget that Morna can be double reinforced!).
