Sonic Boom EXTRA and Ranged Blocks

By Nyobari, in UFS Rules Q & A

We had this one come up at the pre-release.

My opponent plays Sonic Boom EXTRA. It's got static text which says that this attack can't be blocked by attacks which have a block zone which matches the attack zone. Now, it's also a ranged attack.

Question is, can you block using an attack which has a printed block zone of low or high, but an attack zone of mid, but is also a ranged attack which may be played as a +0 Mid Block? Can you use it as a Ranged Block (the +0 Mid Block)?

Official Card text:

Sonic Boom Extra could not be used to block with. It's block zone matches it's attack zone.

Aura Soul Spark however could be. Because it's default block zone (High) does not match the mid attack zone. However if you were try and used the ranged text, it would then have a mid block matching the zone of it's attack, so you would not be allowed to block with it.

If you wanted to be safe in using the ranged text, you would want to use Charlie's Sonic Boom.
