Skirmish Format League!

By Kyle Ren, in X-Wing

I am going to be starting the Skirmish League! Skirmish Format, in case you missed it, is exactly the same as regular X-Wing except that you build a 120 point list instead of 200 and the round only lasts 45 minutes. We're going to be playing this all via EITHER vassal or TTS (you'll be able to find games with people for either), and using the Hyperspace format. You may change lists whenever you like, and play as many games as you want with whichever players you want, I'll have a way of calculating scores etc. that will reward players for both W/L and activity (the formula is kinda intense but I've tested it and it seems fair). There may be a playoffs at the end of the league depending on interest. To sign up for the league, join the Discord server and find the role reaction in the announcements channel.

Signups end May 1st, league will begin May 4 (see what I did there?)

Looks neat. How does one sign up?

I’m excited to try it out. I expect the calculus of what is good is different in a lower ship count, 120 point meta.

Now, I likely won't be playing in this league, but I have one question: does the two ship minimum still apply or can I run a very angry supernatural Anakin?

Edit: i just saw the "hyperspace only" requirement, but my theoretical question still stands, along with any potential input on said angry chosen one's power in the skirmish meta.

120 points is an interesting list building challenge. Signed up and looking forward to this!

we tested it out with removing that restriction but 1 ship lists just have a lot of NPE potential (for either player) and the game was more fun with keeping the 2 ship restriction, so that's why the only restrictions changed are the points cap and the time limit.

(I guess that means 9 ship lists are theoretically banned too šŸ˜„ )

Yeah, that's fair. I've never been a super ace-y player, but the thought of it still intrigued me. Super aces as a NPE I understand, but now I'm thinking about the case of large ships: Han/Lando/Dash almost always comes out to 120 points, and those are likely more reasonable for both sides. Would it be worth removing the restriction in the case of a single large ship, seeing as their standard builds are already in that range and that they're actually reasonably balanced compared to "Angry Points Fortress Supernatural Ani/Kylo?"

single large ships were also not fun in playtesting, sometimes for the other player but sometimes for the player who's playing them

Is there a way to sign up and play without using the discord? Its not that im opposed to using it, i am just wondering for simplicity.

the entire thing is being run through discord for the purpose of simplicity, that way all signups, matchmaking, and reporting are in the same place, so I'm afraid it would add too much complexity to try to run it using multiple platforms

ok this is the last day to sign up!

either TTS or VASSAL, plenty of players for either
