Are the stats from the core rule book correct? It states that a Psycheneuein has a toughness of above 80 AND has "Unnatural Toughnes x2". Which means that this beasts soak up 16 points of damage per hit. Which is fine if the "Extremis "category is to reflect its hardyness rather then the dreaded infestation.
In addition (if FFG is reading) how does a Psycheneuein infect a psyker with it´s larva? Some official rules would be very welcome.
Talking infestation: How will a witch/sorcerer be treaded in this regard? Is he "unsuiting" since they aren´t "natural psykers" or does the exposure of his mind and soul to the working of the warp turn him into valid breeding ground?
Psycheneuein: Stats correct?

Extremis covers all of it and more. Consider that a Psychneuein infestation almost wiped out the human population of Prospero before the Great Crusade, and only through the intervention of Magnus the Red were the remaining people on that world able to survive... even after the coming of the Emperor and the the Thousand Sons legion being reunited with their Progenitor, the infestation remained, held at bay by powerful psychic wards away from Tizca, the only remaining city.
An Astartes Legion couldn't end the immense Psychneuein infestation on their own homeworld... which I think is ample demonstration of how enduring and difficult to eliminate they are.
Hi No-One-Here,
the Australians weren´t able to put an end to the overpopulation of toads and frogs, either. Which isn´t due to the toughness of this creatures but the lack of natural enemies... and their sheer size as the problem was recognised and the due to the volume of resources(or their consequences) fighting the problem.. In addition, I think the source you state might be about a different strain altogether (Prospero, as you state yourself).
Bye the way: is that from the first & original RT-Game or from a rather recent novell? Just curious.
I still wonder if one Mara Strain Psycheneuein is really intended to be that tough. A modified TB of 16 means that they swallow non-astartes bolter rounds without significant damage. Such creatures tend to give me a pause, but perhaps this is due to my lack of experience with rank 7/8.

reducing damage by 16 points is deceptively Weak...
Consider the numerous ways to defeat this:
The Imperial guard (Stalin) Method ... IE Quantity is its own quality.
- Empras fury on full auto weapons... Not the most effective, but sheer rate of fire will win the day more often than not.
- Empras fury on tearing weapons... see above
- Empras fury on Full auto tearing weapons...think heavy bolter... a tearing weapon on average rolls an 8. more importantly, has a slightly less than 20% chance of empra fury.
The Dual striker method. Gauranteed wreckage
- Dual shot .54 Trantors with Dum Dums and mighty shot produces the following : 2D10+18. Its dumb I know, but incredibly effective. all with COMMON QUALITY gun and some dum dums.
- Dual shot with hand meltas.... GG.
- Chain Swords + crushing blow (axes if you can warp your mind into understanding how it works in a logical manner) 2d10+4+STR - TEARING.
Psykers...
- <Insert Rules as Written overpowered ability here>
The Big Guns Method
- Krak Missiles. Average availability, contained explosion to avoid killing your friends, and a pile of damage. at 150 thrones a pop, how could you not carry a few?
- Plasma Blaster (fired on maximal if using rogue trader Plasma weapon rules)
- Melta Weapons
- TOXIC weapons maybe? You'd have to find one to bypass the 16 tough
- <INSERT GREAT WEAPON HERE> Really Cheap (like 100 thrones) 2d10+2 + STR
- Eviscerator Cheap too. (under 1000) 1d10+12+Str TEARING!
- Las cannon auto cannon multi las, assault cannon etc.
Basically, if your group has the right stuff, this puppies are going down like big fat blimps. Conceivably even low rank acolytes could kill them with a couple lucky massed fire attacks, or a simple great weapon
Because of the EASE in which they can be brought down (I'm not saying they are easy foes by any means... but They certainly arent a slaugth or Daemonhost), I would say the Extremis rating is related to the eating of psykers and out of control growth rate.
