Discord Missiles Launching

By muzhyou, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm a little bit confused about the following scene:

While launching a Discord Missiles, if the templete passes the base of the enemy ship, but the final position of the Buzz Droid Swarm is not at range 0 of any enemy ships, what will happens?

1) The Buzz Droid Swarm just stays at its final position and nothing else will happen.

2) The Buzz Droid Swarm can be relocated to the guides of the enemy ship that the launching templete once past.

The answer will help to figure out the how difficult it is to launch Discord Missiles.

Per the rules, it's the ship or the ship's movement template that has to overlap or pass through the Buzz Droid token that allows the Buzz Droid to relocate. Under the conditions you mention, #1 is the result.

The Droids are easy to launch but difficult to get good results. They can be used to good effect to block off routes though obstacles to deny your enemies some movement area.

One thing to be aware of is they are not very useful against ships with barrel rolls. The ship can just barrel roll away from the droid token.

Correct.

Think of it this way. In the movie and show, the missile traveled in-front of the Jedi before it exploded into Buzz droids. The path the missile took went around/missed the ships, so its travel on its own didnt hurt the ships. Only them flying *though* the buzz swarm. This is exactly the situation described above.

Right. That makes sense and a clear picture in mind. Thanks for both of you.
