TTS question

By Cpt ObVus, in X-Wing

Sorry, I couldn’t find a better place to ask this...

Has anyone here ever used a Rigged Cargo Chute on TTS? Where and how do you spawn the bloody token for it? We found just about everything, even Spare Parts Canister debris tokens, but couldn’t for the life of us dig up RCC debris.

Have you looked through the devices? I think you use the bomb dropper to trigger the drop, then choose it from the devices.

What is TTS in this context?

Rigged Cargo Chute debris tokens either need to be brought forward from 1st Edition or need to be found in either of the two 2nd Edition Falcons or the "Never Tell Me The Odds Obstacle Pack."

TTS is Table Top Simulator. Which allows online playing of lots of games, including X-wing and Armada. Like Vassal, but easier to get into. Different hardware requirements too. TTS needs slightly more RAM etc whereas Vassal needs a decent resolution on your screen or you can't see the virtual mat.

Thanks for the answer! And forgive me, but I have to disagree with you. Vassal is pretty easy to figure out. I had a bit of trouble importing a fleet at first, but the actual “how do I make the ships go, where do I spawn pieces from,” sorts of questions were intuitive and simple. I messed with TTS for hours yesterday, and while it’s graphically beautiful by comparison (at least X-Wing is, it looks like someone is still working on some of the Armada models), it’s wildly more complicated. Assigning dials? No idea how to do that. Making ships move? I get the concept, but there’s a massive list of typed commands that I need to input manually each time? Really? Vassal does this with an easy drop-down menu. Never mind the fact that about 50% of the time in TTS, moving one of the game components causes things like turret indicators to fall off, or cards to flip over the edge of the table. And rather than auto-spawning an entire list directly from a fleet builder via copy-paste, I apparently need to painstakingly spawn one card at a time in TTS? Ugh.

I’m really hoping these sorts of issues have solutions that I simply haven’t found yet, but in the amount of time we’ve already spent barely learning how to do really basic stuff in TTS, we were already into our third game on Vassal. It’s just far easier, full stop.

As for hardware requirements, I don’t know what they are, but they can’t be very intense. My computer absolutely sucks, and it has no trouble with either program.

Omg, dont spawn one card at a time. Lol. Go to the builder on the side of the table and there is an "add ship" button. Press it and keep adding until you have your list. Spawn in, it may spawn sideways, highlight the whole thing, hold left click and tap "e" until it fits in the side of the table.

**Very important for assigning dials, make you you pick your color at the too right, basically making yourself a player instead of just in charge of the room. If the dials aren't assigned, pick it up and drop it in the center of your ship and it should assign it.

Also I think I saw rigged cargo shoot in it's own pile near the bombs, but I could be wrong.

Turret arc indicators are just annoying, but you start to get the hang of never touching your ship once you place it and move with the dials, and only ever turning the arcs instead of moving the ships manually

Oh, and for moving, they tried to make the dials as close to the real thing as possible in the limitations. Flip the dial with "f", click "move" and it will spawn your ships movement options, invisible to the other player. Click what you want (it's a little hard to tell when it's been clicked). Click "set" and it will turn red to show it's ready. Now when it's that ships turn to activate, flip it with "f" again and click move. Your ship will have moved. Then you can assign it actions including barrel roll, boost, tokens, etc from the dial as well..

If that sounds like a lot,its really not, it goes real quick once you get the hang of it

Ok, lots of info here! Thanks. A few more questions, if you don’t mind?

How does the game handle bumps and collisions? Vassal just detects a collision and allows you to press one key to auto-fix it.

I don’t recall the “spawn ship” button or whatever you’re talking about, and I thought I gave that interface a pretty thorough examination, but it must be there. Is there a way to spawn a ship with multiple upgrades all at once? Or even better, spawn an entire list from YASB 2.0 or some other builder program?

As someone who has just started with TTS, I found hexiled gaming on YouTube to be an excellent channel with good tutorials:

There's info on how to import lists and much more 🙂

When you use the dials to move, it will say Bumped on the base of your ship, and will stop you total movement. If that ever happens with a boost or barrel roll that you shouldn't have been able to execute, since it let's you roll over rocks, theres an undo button on the dial.

I just skimmed the video @Turcopolier posted. Looks like they have a place to upload from YASB. The video is short and quick but very informative. And I built a squad in the system from scratch very easily once you know what go click on I suppose. But if you have YASB on your computer uo, give that a try!

When you are the host, there is a flat area off to your left hand side with a white 'console' which has all the spawner/list-building buttons. Including a simple paste box for YASB2 export text - if you pick the 'TTS' text option in YASB.

For Armada, I wrote a 'Noob's Guide' which Valadian (the mod creator) thought useful enough to link to in his description of the mod. Some of the hints might help with the x-wing mod too.

Ok, I hadn’t seen the TTS button on YASB. That helps. I know the console you’re referring to. How do you spawn a fleet if you aren’t the host?

By looking to your right to find the console since you generally play on the other side of the same mat! 😉
