Spirit of Jabba proxy help

By Airborne Engineer, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I am looking at creating a Hutt Cartel ship as a proxy for a large ship that is in the game. I'm breaking my Scum into several factions so that they match thematically. I am doing all of my Hutt Cartel ships in the OD green, khaki, & reddish brown colors based of the FFG minis. The force is going to have 2 Kirhrykz, 4 M3-As & 2 M-12 Kimolgia's at least to start as it is what I have at the moment.

I think I have found the ship but there is very little go on. It is called the Spirit of Jabba, an armed freighter owned by Jabba in one of the comics. Of course I can only find one picture & there is not much information on size & other features.

My thought is to make it a proxy for the YV-666 and build it to a similar size as the FFG ship. It's a big freighter, has wings in the back, looks like those guns on the wings might give plausibly it a 180 front arc. It also has 2 crew slots to add Jabba to the squad.

This was in the Marvel Comic: The Jabba Tapes. Does anyone have a copy of it to tell be if there are any additional pictures of the ship in the comic. Maybe willing to share any scans here? I would hate to order it & get nothing out of it.

The back section looks like a lambda class shuttle to me. That could be a good place to start for that section. The front part will be a lot of modeling.

The back section certainly shares a lot of features with the lambda shuttle but with a thinner vertical stabilizer & the guns moved down the wing. I looked at using an FFG shuttle but to scale it to the rest of the ship it would be more of a huge ship until it was finished. I have a shuttle toy/model that is about 2/3rds of the size of the one for x-wing, I think it will work for the aft section with a bit of modification. I'm not afraid of the modeling, but it is usually a time issue. But I have a bit of time since the apocalypse.

Good plan, the outline of the back section certainly looks Lambda-ish, but at a much smaller size if this overall is supposed to be about the size of a YV-666 on the table.

To save time on creating the front half I'd look for a boat hull flipped upside down. Then for the greebly section in the middle my first thought is to chop out the neck of a YT-2400 model, also use those giant turrets from the YT for the wing mounted cannons here.

Kit bash wise... I think I would go with Lambda and the front section of a C-ROC...

maybe cast the c-roc if you can.. lambda's are cheep :)

or 3D print?

That was my first thought as well! But that would definitely make it too big for a large base and the OP was looking to fly this as a replacement model for a YV-666.

Hi

Did you had a look on the YV-330?

I have designed For printing on 3D, the size is similar than the YV-666 and it has more resemblance with the Huttese ships...

here below you have some pictures about the design, in case you may be interested in it...

The size is 11,3 mm

That is a cool looking ship Decan Mabu!

I have decent scratch building skills, but rarely the time to finish anything. I love digging through EU stuff (from before it was legends) to add stuff to X-wing. Both scratch building & buying 3d prints, though usually about the time I finish it then FFG announces it for the next wave. I am still debating on the main hull though, I could use a block of wood, carve it & add greeblies all over it or construct it from plastic sheet. For the connecting piece I have plenty of styrene & metal tubes, beams & other shapes to make it look good. Just have to decide on the main hull piece before I can figure out which pieces to connect it with.

Tie phantom, star viper, and several other examples! I think I am safe this time with the Spirit of Jabba, she'll be a one of a kind.

if you’re goin to make a scratch built model, and having a look on the Spirit of Jabba I recommend to use adhesive paper for drawing the pieces and plastic sheet.

here below is an example with a G9 freighter (short hauler)

hope this helps
