[Blog] Before Setting Dials: Choose Your Weapon.
Tres bien! I enjoy breakdowns like this. I’ve been playing an embarrassingly long time for how squishy my foundation is sometimes.
Good stuff here.
After 2.0 was released, my original goal was “fly every chassis I own!” Which made me often fall into the jank playstyle. Once I got that accomplished, I started really committing to trying to learn what styles work best for me.
Here’s what I’ve learned - I play my best when I have an ace or maybe an ace and a pocket ace, and then fill the rest in with beef or a mini swarm.
My 2019 “competitive list” was Kenobi, Ric, and 3x torrents. Earned my way into worlds at LCQ with it, got to enjoy worlds even if I didn’t make day 2, etc.
My 2020 store champ was Kylo and 3x SFs with missiles and passive sensors. Traded the 5th ship for more agility on the ace and temporary 3 die guns on the SFs. Did well by my standards (top 8 of 32).
I was going to start experimenting with other builds but the lockdown hit.

I also did a tour of my collection last year, and was working on another this year. But at the same time I’ve also wanted to figure out what I’m good at, and what I enjoy.
Conveniently enough, I think jank might turn out to be the answer to both—though I do want to make a go of aces at some point this year. I struggle to get good value out of them, and usually get blocked and die.
