Converting Phase 1 to Phase 2 clones

By Viperhook, in Star Wars: Legion

I want to start building a phase 2 clone army, with Rex, phase 2 clones, arc troopers and Barc (to begin with). I have dice and everything from my rebel army so no need for the starter. (I'll try to get Obi from someone who bought 2 starters).

I heard that phase 2 clones have almost no customization options. If I use some headless heads, I think I'll have some spare phase 2 helmets.

Could I put them on phase 1 bodies (trooper or expansion). I think the body armor is close enough (phase 1 vs phase 2). I wouldn't use illegal heavy options, or personnel upgrade, but I don't want 5 kneeling z6 troopers.

As far as I know the helmet is the only thing that distinguishes a Phase I from a Phase II, so there shouldn't be any problem with doing this. Technically, the models would still need to be approved by the TO if you wanted to use them in a tournament, but as long as you have the cards, I doubt anyone would even notice that they were converted.

I bought 1 unit of P2 clones and filled the pegs in and drilled new pegs with my P1 clones to make 2 units of Phase2 (1 with z6 and 1 mortar)

P1 are a little easier to change arms on in my opinion. I painted 1 w/orange highlights and the other w/ yellow. They look great. I'm not convinced the P2 are better than the P1 for the cost, but once the ARCs come out it won't matter

Right now i run Rex, Padme, tank, 2 P2 and 3 P1 troops

PIIs are customizable. With a scalpel, superglue, and imagination, they can be anything you want.

I have a kneeling Mortar trooper. Backpacks on troopers that weren't supposed to have them. Etc etc.

I don't have them yet, so I went with what I read online. Of course with a knife everything is customizable, but if using phase I is doable, it might give me better results.

Goooood....goooooood... Dew it!

I have made a Phase 2 BARC Trooper Unit.
Sorry for the bad pic, it’s just a snapshot.

I’ve replicated the heads with bluestuff-molds. I’ve replicated some standard Phase 2 heads too. It has worked well.

So long as you have enough official cards for your Phase II units, this should probably be fine, again depending upon TO approval. If you are only using them as unit filler/alternate Z-6s, I'd be surprised if it was an issue.

I have built two Phase II units and neither of them have a kneeling Z-6. It was a relatively easy torso swap. Glue body together, wait for plastic glue to dry, saw through torsos at waist just above belt (razor saw works well for this), reattach torsos with plastic glue. By rotating the body the full way around while cutting, using the belt to guide the saw, I avoided any loss of important detail. I also managed an arm swap onto a different torso with very little carving (really just removing the left pauldron, maybe some shaping of the Z-6 peg arm, can't quite remember) and using the Z-6 body alternate rifle left arm to get a decent fit. So one of my Z-6s has a backpack, and the other does not.

I love this! nice work!

I'm currently working through 2 squads of 327th

Im thinking of just using all my spare helmet free heads, from other boxes, on a set of phase 1s and running them as phase 2s. As far as I can tell it’s really only the helmet that is different, excluding the mortar but I run the z-6 anyway. I just need the cards..
