[Imp. Ext.] 4x I4 Makes My Brain Ache.

By Cuz05, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Still feel like this is a hard place to be, but anyway...

Perhaps social distancing has sent me to a strange, dark place where planning phases no longer have any real meaning... and a list being good, bad or unfathomable is irrelevant.

In any case, it's got me thinking about Extended again. Which some would certainly call a dark and strange place.

But it does conjour old ghosts of 4x Imp I4 for me, and that's a fertile ground for difficult things.

Well. Whatever. This seems interesting/disgusting/impossible to fly. And that just makes me want it more.

I'm almost afraid to even try it on Fly Casual.

🤣 🤣

I love it!

I'd be worried that Jedi eat it, but on casual night it looks like alot of fun!

This is very true, I think. But I have flown Sense Sister and Echo against Jedi once before. As alluded to in the list name, the planning is genuinely the hardest thing I've done in 2.0, but informing the decloak enabled me to eat them . However, on that occasion, Echo had Col Det, which was massive. With this, the hope is that 5th Bro adds a threat they really don't want to see, which may make Echo a bit more manageable for me.

No idea if and when I'll get round to putting it on a table, but it'll be an interesting experiment for sure.

Try Echo with passive sensors so you can get easy locks on squirrelly targets. You already got ways to arc dodge so just taking focuses isn't quite as important. Might open points for a bid too or Elusive for a little extra insurance if you want to be defensive. Elusive isn't bad on Sabacc either as you want to avoid shots on him like the plague.

Tbh, I think lock/focus are fairly interchangeable on Echo, so Outmanouvre gives that extra mod stacked with focus and it's all on that one action. With Echo I normally hold off and then dive into make or break positions, so I generally prefer to just focus and reduce the gamble I take on that turn. Unless she has 5th Bro aboard, then the lock becomes real good.

I'm also more or less married to Outmanouevre there, people really get sweats about where she's lurking and it can be a powerfully persuasive tool.

Sabacc here is not intended to last, he's the one shouldering the role of the impossible to ignore distraction. The other 3 can each double team an endgame, so forcing his damage through early with Crack strikes me as being more effective than trying to keep him ticking along.

Same team.

Without potential for double mods, I'd rather just save points and Focus, than invest in the Lock action.

With having the lock action you can set up double modded shots if you can lock in turns that you wont get to shoot tho. Or you can choose to hold the lock for later if you don't expect good results from the shot.

Your action don't only have to impact the turn you take them.

  • Grand Inquisitor: Heightened Perception, Mag-Pulse Warheads 61
  • Seventh Sister: naked 43
  • Fifth Brother: naked 42
  • Echo: Passive Sensors 54

This works best for me. Echo does his squirmy things. GI should be the main target for the enemies, but he can just arc dodge like a pro. Brother and Sister are the cheapest pieces, but can hit like a truck with their pilot abilities. You can easily Boost/Roll > Red Focus every turn, because those V1s don't care about stress. Also GI can strip tokens off of enemies to leave them defenceless against the I4 trio.

Very true, but that works best for aces who know they'll be out of arc, or tanks who don't care. Taking a lock at I4 is often a risky move and on a ship as pricey and fragile as Echo, can be quite bad news. Certainly the way I fly her 😄

I've always found Echo to be a very high priority target. If she's in lock range, she's often in danger. Even on 3, 4, 5 or even 6ag, with all the bells and whistles, that lack of focus can cost you an awful lot of points and set you up to be Init killed on following turns.

I have been bitten more than once!

On the other side of the coin, flying her so that you can set up the double mod safely, is costing you. With focus and Outmanouvre, you're asking for variance to bite, but you can get real impact without the set up. With that fantastic ability, you can pounce unpredictably. Acquiring a lock for follow up shots is providing your opponent with information that can land you in trouble, or leave you with nothing.

Equally, Passive is not needed then, you can go for TC and FCS, which is real killer.

I mean, I love loading her up so that the lock can do real work, with 5th Bro added to the above, but there isn't room for that here. Slim Echo is best played fast and loose imo. Out of range or in and bang, wherever the open target lies.

Sure. But if points are tight (which they are here), it's the first thing I'm going to cut.

I'm not skipping a solid talent to take Passive Sensors, unless I've got Force from Fifth Brother, or bonus focus tokens like Soontir, or Jendon for round 1 Locks, etc etc.

I flew against a similar list where Sabacc and passive sensors were replaced with Aslam marksmanship autoblasters Vynder. It was nasty. Sense helped track down my aces, and echo/gunboat can fly circles around lower initiative ships. It’s a lot of fun.
