First attempt at a Resistance list

By Cpt ObVus, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I only have four Resistance ships (one of each); a T-70, an RZ-2, The Falcon, and The Fireball. I also have access to the Resistance Conversion Kit, the Core Set, Hotshots & Aces, Fully Loaded, and Never Tell Me The Odds.

I wanted to try fitting all four ships into my first list, and I wanted a sort of “open” activation order, where most or all of my pilots had the same initiative. In this case, it turned out that i4 was a good number. How’s this look for a first try? Any horrible choices? Thanks in advance!

You most certainly want to spend the last 2 points on Heroic on the black ace, if not Kaz as well.

You can remove coax fuel and Kaz's fireball off of Kaz and get advanced optics onto Greer to make him more consistent.

I know you said you want to use all of your ships, but I suggest checking out this thread:

There you will find nice Falcon, A-wing and Fireball lists, which are quite powerful right now.

May do, after I see how these work on Fireball. I’m pretty new to this, but my suspicion is that they may work really, really well.

As for the last two points, I’m gonna see how much the bid tends to work out for me. I’m a veteran Armada guy, and having the choice of first player is something I really like in that game. It seems to mean a bit less in X-Wing, given the simultaneous fire rule, but we’ll see how it goes before I just start defaulting to 200.

In X-wing being first player/having initiative is generally a bad thing. Let's say both you and your opponent have Poe, if you are first player/have initiative then yeah your Poe does shoot first, but he also moves first. This means your opponent still has a chance at barrel rolling and boosting out of your firing arc and might even get you in theirs, basically they get out of your arc but you end up in theirs.

Aces hate to have initiative usually but generics tend to like it more since you can set up some blocks to deny your opponent some actions.

I kill them before they kill me. That, and I get to see exactly how and where they position themselves. In just one test game, I’ve already found that Kazuda loves knowing when and where to activate SLAM, for example (the Fireball is fantastic, as far as I can tell).

I really love this list. Couple of observations from my games with it:

Heroic is the sort of upgrade that seems to prove Murphy’s Law; the only ships that ever blank out are the ones without Heroic. The ones WITH Heroic will invariably roll at least one Focus. Every time.

I’m using my last two points to put Heroic on the two ships that don’t have it. Bid be damned.

Chewie is pretty gross. He’s consistently been a monster for me, and the bonus actions and attacks from dying allies has so far been a factor several times per game. It sets him up nicely to be the last Wookiee standing. I suppose I could give Rey or some other Falcon pilot a try, but I really love having everyone in the list at i4.

Kaz is great. The Fireball is great. Yes, it usually ends up killing itself by exposing a Direct Hit or something. But maaan, is it a fun ship to fly while it lasts!

Init leveling, that is having all ships at the same initiative, is certainly a valuable asset particularly when new to the game but even long time players appreciate the flexibility.
