I’m contemplating buying another shoretrooper expansion and another e-web blaster. I’m doing this so that I can have the kneeling snowtrooper from the E-web expansion be employed on the mortar, so I can have a strictly Hoth themed wargaming match. Would that in any way prevent me from using it in competitions?
Snow trooper mortarmen
Any conversions of this sort are ultimately up to TO approval, but I can't imagine anyone wouldn't allow it. The mortar makes it very clear what it's supposed to be.
However, to field the mortar you have to have Shoretroopers in your list. And replacing them with Snowtrooper models could be very confusing to opponents, especially if you also have actual Snowtroopers in your list, so that's something to consider.

I doubt it. The fact that it's on a medium base and you can see the mortar would prevent any confusion. Of course, you'd have to check with the TO prior to the event. You also need to bring Shoretroopers in order to bring the mortar.
I like the idea. I think most of the Snow troopers could be converted from shoretroopers and vice versa with some effort. That way they have the correct weapons causing less confusion.
I think this is a great idea. Shoulder pad insignias help with this or colors on the base (ie. the blue bases are shoretroopers using these other models.
I don't think anyone would have a problem with this as it increases the fun factor when playing if there is a theme in your painted army. All your figures being grey plastic is more confusing to me than having Sandtroopers over here and snowtroopers over here or white shiny death troopers etc.
With their capes and loose pants and stuff I think the shoretrooper models would paint up very well as alternate snowtroopers. Maybe I'll buy some after all. Thanks for setting me back $30 with this thread.

After all, the seaside can be pretty nippy as well!

This is true. The coldest I've ever been in my life was staring out towards the Baltic in the face of a winter storm. I couldn't make it to the pier even, it was so cold i wimped out.
Man I feel like a fool. I forgot about the detachment key word. Well I guess I won’t be doing a snow trooper mortar after all.

You can't just buy one squad man, come on
Paint your shore troopers like penguins and you are golden.

I already have 9 corps units. So. Yeah just one.
Saw this posted on facebook, by the jedi hunter podcast. Shoretroopers as snowtroopers works quite well, I think

That's incredible! TBH one reason I've been holding off buying in is the difficulty of making thematically appropriate armies that perform well.
I'd personally choose a temperate army over Snowtroopers, but stuff like this gives me a lot of hope.
