Having just downloaded Vassal, I am wondering when people are usually online, if there is still any sort of league, and how many people still play. Can anyone help me or direct me to a group of Vassal players?

You might want to watch the GoldSquadron podcast on youtube about online X-wing. It goes into some detail about Vassal, I am in the same boat as you and it really helped understand the process.

There is a vassal league that runs regularly as well, you can get in touch with the folks running it at xwvl.slack.com I believe. I've found that there are usually a few people sitting around in the vassal lobby and I'm sure that number will increase as we get stuck at home

The Vassal League Players Slack is a very active group (more so during seasons, still gets a lot of use between seasons) and you can ask away any question in channel #random.

On my http://xwvassal.info website, even though it'll be phased out as the central hub for the vassal league, it will still have vital links to that slack and to a Vassal tutorial at http://xwvassal.info/guide (a bit outdated because it's v1 made, still checks out a bit for the basis). To get on the slack channel, use this link to request an invite:
