Task Force Interdictor vs. Task Force Han

By Admiral Calkins, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

Last week of Task Force tournament prep, I swear! Helping my friend in Tucson with his list on Tabletop Simulator. Below are the lists.

Name: Task Force Interdictor

Assault: Advanced Gunnery
Defense: Asteroid Tactics
Navigation: Doomed Station

Interdictor Suppression Refit (90)
• Minister Tua (2)
• Engineering Team (5)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Grav Shift Reroute (2)
• Targeting Scrambler (5)
• SW-7 Ion Batteries (5)
• Interdictor (3)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
= 122 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Hondo Ohnaka (2)
• Comms Net (2)
= 27 Points

Squadrons:
• Zertik Strom (15)
• Saber Squadron (12)
• 3 x TIE Fighter Squadron (24)
= 51 Points

Total Points: 200

I actually made a few changes from my previous list. I dropped Bossk and the Firesprays entirely, as a lack of squadrons would really put small and medium ships for newer players in some serious trouble. I opted for less offensive power against ships, taking Zertik, Saber, and 2 x generic TIE Fighters. Pretty defensive against squadrons, but not great against ships. The extra points allowed me to add a Gozanti. An extra activation and can push the squadrons, with Comms Net in case I need to support the Interdictor in tanking something.

----------

Name: Task Force Han

Assault: Advanced Gunnery
Defense: Asteroid Tactics
Navigation: Superior Positions

MC80 Command Cruiser (106)
• Skilled First Officer (1)
• Engine Techs (8)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Leading Shots (4)
• Spinal Armament (9)
= 135 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Boosted Comms (4)
= 22 Points

Squadrons:
• Han Solo (26)
• Shara Bey (17)
= 43 Points

Total Points: 200

My opponent's list was interesting, but, at least on paper, did not seem to have the right synergy. The Command Cruiser didn't seem to be the right MC80 given that it wasn't pushing squadrons. Spinal Armament wasn't terrible, but he needed some great maneuvering to always be in double arc to get the most out of it. He also was only pushing one squadron, which seemed inefficient for the GR-75.

My opponent had initiative after winning the coin toss and chose to be second player. I chose his Superior Positions for the objective.

Deployment: After placing obstacles, I put down my Grav Shift Reroute token, being able to reach four of them. I deployed in the left corner, with my Interdictor shielding my Gozanti and my squadrons providing a screen. My opponent deployed in the opposite corner, with his GR-75 on the inside track. I then moved the four obstacles with Grav Shift Reroute, forcing his MC80 to either take damage from the Debris Field or make a very sharp turn towards my fleet.

Round 1: I bumped my Gozanti up to Speed 3 and started to turn toward his fleet. He did the same with his GR-75. I matched the moves with my Interdictor. He did the same with his MC80, but at Speed 1, it goes slightly off the board. Since this is a practice game, we just rewound and he moved straight. All squadrons moved forward to screen.

Round 2: Aside from the MC80 landing on the Debris Field and his GR-75 stopping movement right in front of my Interdictor, no real adjustment to our ship movement. As our squadrons moved forward though, he placed Shara in front of his GR75 to protect it (and to get a next round shot at my Interdictor), so I threw a single TIE Fighter in there to lock her down (didn't attack though; that pilot wasn't suicidal). I kept the rest of my squadrons out of range of Han so he couldn't attack one and lock the rest down at the top of Round 3.

Round 3: After Han moved (but can't reach any squadrons to attack), I activate my Interdictor. With the help of the three squadrons I activated with my dial and token, the Interdictor is able to destroy the GR75. The MC80 moves towards the center, but is still not in range. I activated the Gozanti and sniped at Shara with Saber Squadron, bringing her down to two hull.

Round 4: I activated my Gozanti first, using Saber and Zertik to destroy Shara, with minimal reprisal from her counter. The MC80 attacked the Gozanti at medium range, leaving it with one hull remaining. The Interdictor activates with Disposable Capacitors, starting to put damage on the MC80, but not before sending two TIEs after Han.

Round 5: (Forgot to take a picture after Round 5) Han activated and attacked Zertik, bringing him down to one hull after a terrible roll. After activating the Gozanti, I am able to overwhelm Han with squadrons, destroying him. I then sneak behind the MC80, accidentally leaving my rear hull exposed after forgetting about what objective we were playing. He missed the Gozanti from his rear arc shot, while my Interdictor easily tanked his side arc shot. Squadrons get in position to start getting Victory Tokens the next round.

Round 6: After popping Hondo, I activate my Gozanti, pushing Saber Squadron to attack the rear hull zone of the MC80, receiving a Victory Token. I use the other squadron activation to get Zertik out of medium range of the MC80. The Gozanti runs away (when I was getting the pictures together for this BATREP, I realized that the Gozanti had actually flown off the board. We didn't even notice while we were playing because spatial awareness is so different on TTS). The MC80 and the Interdictor trade shots that don't really men anything in Round 6, but my Interdictor gets to activate one squadron to get a Victory Token (Thanks, Hondo!). When he overlapped my two TIE fighters though, they got moved to the rear arc, where they got me two more Victory Tokens. I win 125-27 (7-4, 98 MoV; according to how our Task Force Tournament will be scored, which doubles the "combat" points earned, the score would be 190-54, for a 7-4, 136 MoV).

Thoughts: This was a fun game and I enjoyed the squadron play more than the bomber play of previous games. My opponent just took way to long to get his flagship into the fight, not utilizing Engine Techs once. I continue to think that Grav Shift Reroute is just an amazing upgrade in Task Force. I reach usually reach 3-4 obstacles every time, almost always putting 1-2 in the way of my opponent. And Saber Squadron really came through as my Shara insurance and Zertik as an escort against her! My opponent is going back and reworking his list, looking at an MC80 Liberty in lieu of a MC80 Home One.

Hope you enjoyed the BATREP!
