What Villains would you like to see post July (and heroes as well)

By James Ravenwood, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

This has been raised before but as we now know what is rounding out Phase 1 of the MC release schedule I thought I'd put up another round of speculation.

To kick off, before the X-Men and Fantastic Four villains and heroes start to take over the next runs I would like to see:

Red Skull - in some ways the quintissential villain. There are no good things about Oberfuhrer Johann Schmidt. Even Dr Doom and Loki have fought with the good guys when it suits them but Red Skull is purely for himself and his goals which are self centred. There really are no good points with this gentleman. He taps into HYDRA of course as well mad science (eg. Cosmic Cube, robotics etc). He has encountered the Avengers and X-Men (going to the length of stealing part of Professor X's brain). He has been featured on the cards already and as implied should be a scheme strong villain with loads of minions that really challenges the heroes. Side schemes should put pressure and distract the heroes from focusing on getting to the Skull (I can see some synergies with the Green Goblin scenarios here but dialed up even more.

Dracula- I'm an admitted vampire fan and I do like Dracula when he appears. He has fought Blade, Dr Strange, Thor, the Avengers, Excalibur and the X-Men on a number of occasions. Another minion and scheme heavy villain he is also a powerful fighter in his own right when he's powered up by one means or another. I think he'd be perfect for a Halloween release and a nice double with Blade if he is released this year. A Dracula scenario may not even start with Ol' Fang but as a local cult of Darkholders who are seeking the Darkhold for their master which develops as the plot progresses to a vampire outbreak culminating in a titanic struggle against a powered up Lord of Vampires with the fate of the human and vampire races at stake (pardon the pun).

Over to you.

Well you have your wish immediately with Red Skull coming in the firdt box set!

Dracula is also a very cool choice. One of my favourite villains was always Count Nefaria after his huge power up. His huge three issue battle against the Avengers drawn by Byrne, still remains my favourite super hero battle.

Oh I have not heard about what's in the Campaign Expansion Pack yet. Given his appearance in the Villain Schemes card I assumed he and Venom would likely be on the cards sometime in the future. I hope they hold off on the super powerful Villains like Thanos for awhile. Dr Doom will likely appear when the Fantastic Four come out and Magneto with the X-Men. Interesting that neither of these well know villains have had their likeness on any cards yet.

If I had to guess, they’d be reserving Doctor Octopus and Venom for some kind of Spider-Man themed story box (Ie the sinister six or a symbiote invasion)

Thing is Spidey already has two of his signature villains - Rhino and Green Goblin - so I am theorising that Venom (or any of the others of his rogues gallery) might not be offered anytime soon. However he is a popular character so I could be wrong and Venom (or Doom's venom bomb version) has fought the Avengers. Then there is Carnage and the recent series that has just finished so maybe it could Knull the King of Symbiotes with a link to Venom. Skrulls or Kree might be interesting (played allies turning into Skrull would do your head in and make players second guess themselves).

Doesn't necessarily mean there won't be a Sinister Six story box. The villains are part of individual scenarios as we saw with the Green Goblin scenario pack, which came with two different versions of Green Goblin, one for Risky Business and one for Mutagen Formula. It wouldn't surprise me to see villains make more than one appearance in the future. It also wouldn't surprise me to see some of the nemesis minions given the villain treatment as we start seeing more mechanics and the Standard encounter set is left out of more encounter decks.

I really love the super skrull! It would be awesome to see him, but most of my favorites are street level villains like bullseye, kingpin, hammerhead, tombstone! I'll be happy with any villains though. I hope they start doing more scenario packs than hero packs. Or at least 50/50.

Super skrull is more Fantastic Four despite the fact Captain Marvel and the rest of the Avengers has also dealt with him/them. Nothing wrong with street villains and that means the Sinister Six are not off the cards either (expand the set up of the Wrecking Crew style of play I guess). Ms Marvel is also a street hero and this might hint to more Defenders like Luke Cage and Jessica Jones getting hero packs. I certainly enjoy Goblin two scenarios the most for their story telling) but with Thor and Captain Marvel as well as Dr Strange we should also expect some cosmic villains soon. Maybe not Galactus or Thanos (yet) but possibly the likes of Surtur, the Kree/Skrull and Dormamu.

I wonder if a Sinister Six box that works similarly to Wrecking Crew but better might be cool. Alternative to that, a story box with Sinister Six would be fun. At the very least, you could have three of them as villains and three as encounter sets, but I'd love to have both as both. Maybe it could be a two-parter, or just not include heroes. If it does have heroes, getting other spider-family would be cool. Eddie Brock being my top pick. I'm tempted to say Scarlet Spider for the second one, but Miles would also be nice (not sure we'd see that so soon, though). If they actually did a two-parter (I wouldn't expect it), then Black Cat maybe as another hero. Or screw it all and just do all spider-verse variations of Spider-Man.

Also a fun encounter set would be something themed around J Jonah Jameson.

A few that I'd like to see outside of that are Dormammu, Mandarin, Kang.

Have they announced whats in the box?

@CaffeineAddict You mean the story box they still haven’t officially announced yet? Yeah they spoiled all the cards in it yesterday. 😜

All we’ve seen is the box cover, from a slide in a presentation at GAMA:

The Rise of Red Skull, big picture of his face, Arnim Zola is shown next to him, and Hawkeye and Spider-Woman are on the bottom of the picture, fighting some generic goons.

Are official trade show presentations spoilers to some people?

For Heroes I want Wasp, Richard Rider Nova, and Sunspot.

Villains-wise, I want Kang and the Builders.

I’ve seen people complain about finding things out about things early 🤷‍♂️ Similar to my several friends who avoid seeing trailers for any movies they’re interested in, I suppose.

Fair enough, I figure on the official game boards, officially released materials would be fair game, whereas even the eBay stuff didn’t get spoiler tags :)

Well yes my premonition skill seems to have worked and Red Skull will be the new master villain. I am a little surprised that Spiderwoman is a new hero (although comic wise it make sense along with Hawkeye). This will mean Captain Marvel is the first hero to potentially loose their signature ally. Before its been the Aspect allies that are also heroes (Hulk, Iron Man and now Hawkeye) but Spiderwoman is the first signature ally. I hope Captain Marvel gets an alternate Signature ally if Spiderwoman is being played. Seems a tad unfair that any hero should not be able to use their 15 signature cards. Imo.

She can still be use for costs. So it wouldn’t be a total waste.

She could just be getting an aspect version first also to lower the restriction some.

Maybe Spider-Woman’s signature ally will be Captain Marvel, making them just literally unplayable together? I guess the would be a vaguely elegant solution.

Although having a substitute signature ally would be preferable to me at least.

I want a full X-Men cycle.

I like the idea of a Spiderwoman hero, even if it does cause conflict with Captain Marvel (though as a solo player, its not really an issue for me). Enjoyed the last couple of runs of the Spiderwoman comic, so it'd be cool to play her as a hero.

Villians: Kang the Conqueror. Also Doctor Doom.

Heroes: Richard Rider Nova (as Nova Prime during Annihilation since that was his best incarnation). Also Daredevil.

K but I feel like they’re teasing us with how much card art he’s been on.
