Alright I finally managed to watch this show. It's really cool. My only complaint is the amount of plot-armor they gave Grievous. And y'know. "Darth" Tyrannus. I still hold that Darth shouldn't be a title. Being as that Obi-Wan had a a young pupil "named Darth Vader" and all.
This is the only pre-Vader Anakin stories that exist in my house going forward. My curated canon exists of the following moving pictures plus the West End sourcebooks:
- 2003 Star Wars: Clone Wars
- Solo (begrudgingly and with a high degree of suspicion)
- Rogue One
- The original Trilogy (duh)
- The Mandalorian
- The Last Jedi (See: Solo above)
All else is lumped in with Planet of the Hoojibs and the Ewok shows and stuff.
I think part of the reason it works so well, is it avoids the big trap of the prequels to begin with. It doesn't show the origin, or conclusion, of the Clone Wars, thus preserving the mystique that was a brand-defining aspect of Star Wars until 1999.
