Revised Rules Reference PDF?

By dysartes, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Given we're now at a point where there are a number of rules elements which have been introduced in Deluxe boxes or Mythos packs, but aren't in the core box Rules Reference, do we think we're ever likely to get a revised version where all these disparate bits are rounded up (and possibly even updated in line with the errata document) into one document?

From a quick skim of things, the following rules aren't in there at present (and I'm sure these aren't the only ones):

  • Alert
  • Bonded
  • Myriad
  • Explore
  • Patrol
  • Story Cards
  • Epic Multiplayer Mode
  • Exile
  • Hidden
  • Seal
  • Vengeance
  • How replacing locations works
  • Supplies (if written as a generic, though I'd rather not encourage them to reuse that mechanic)
  • Haunted
  • The Tarot slot
  • Multi-class cards
  • Character rules for Joe's Hunch Deck and how Lola changes roles
  • Swarming X
  • Veiled

I'm not sure if that was more or less than I was thinking - there are other rules that I've not included there, but they tend to be specific to a single scenario.

My suspicion is that we won't see this. While this has happened with recent games (L5R, Marvel Champions), it seems that for games released before the decision was taken to have an online "living rules references" they are sticking with keeping all the pdfs identical to the printed versions.

It would definitely be nice to have, but an alternative is to use https://arkhamdb.com/rules . It isn't completely up to date but it has added keywords that have appeared in expansions and incorporates some of the changes from the FAQ directly into the relevant part of the document.

I guess we have to wait for the next time they do an AMA, and pitch the idea to them.

Even if it isn't a shiny formatted PDF - so a plain file, or even something web-based - having all the rules which aren't specific to a single scenario in one place would be a handy resource for players.

@dysartes @Assussanni I was asked about this again today, and I am slowly adding as many rules as I can to arkhamdb/rules so that that place becomes something like a living rulebook! it's just a slow process because I am slow!

Nice one, @zooeyglass - unrelated question, based on something I experienced when running Mark through The Circle Undone - given one of the options before the first scenario in the main campaign, should Ace of Towers be an option under the Special>Campaign section? I was getting a message saying "Contains too many cards" for the whole campaign ;)

If you all want this process to go faster then drop by the Drawn to the Flame Patreon. Frank and Peter don't just record a podcast but organise official and unofficial events, answer forum questions, spread good information, keep ArkhamDB updated, support new players, give demos and probably more besides! Don't take them for granted.

There is a way to deal with this, although it's a bit hidden away. Go to the regular Ace of Rods card (Build -> Neutral -> Level 1-5) and click on the name of the card. This will bring up a window with the card details. In the top left you have "Deck Quantity", which you can set to 1 to add it to your deck, and in the top right you have "Ignore Limit", which if you set it to 1 will not count that one copy of Ace of Rods towards your deck size.

The Tower can be added as normal from Special -> Basic Weakness.

I hope that helps!

Anything that can be done to help?

Yeah, The Tower wasn't a problem, but the Ace was annoying - that's a great tip for a feature I'd never have known to look for.

I appreciate the error isn't a major factor, but when you know the deck is valid and the deckbuilder is complaining, it's a little bit irksome ;)
