Clarifications

By RyuKyuV1, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

Two questions:

1) If I have a minion with the "Guard" keyword can my allies attack the villain?

2) I have 1 Energy barrier with 3 counters in play. If a villain attacks my hero with 3 attack can I use all 3 of my counters to prevent 3 and deal 3 damage back to the villain?

Thanks,

1. No. Any and all minions engaged with you with the guard keyword must be defeated first. The exception being if the villain also had guard. Then you can choose which order you engage enemies with guard. Having said that, your allies and hero each attack in their own timing window. Once the guard minion is gone the remainder characters are free to attack the villain.

2. No. The interrupt triggers off of when you would take any amount damage and allows the removal of 1 counter. The villain in your scenario deals all their damage at once.

That’s not correct.
Guard (While this minion is engaged with you, you cannot attack the villain.)

A villain getting Guard does nothing because it’s not a minion . You’d still have to attack the minion first if it has guard.

From the RR:

Guard — While any minions with this keyword are engaged with a player, that player cannot attack villains without this keyword.

The reminder text on the minion cards is incomplete. Guard doesn't prevent you from attacking the villain it only prevents you from attacking a villain without guard.

Is there confirmation from developers that Guard is suppose say to something different or the text is incomplete? If you don’t have that proof then your wrong because we have to go with whats written on the cards until otherwise told.

With Thor’s Lighting Strike saying attack in the text but proving to be a typo I’m inclined to believe the RR has a typo based on flavor as well. Hydra Soldiers while being minions game-wise are villains thematically.

Historically with their games the keyword definition always comes from the rules reference as not all cards will always have the reminder text. Also, it is easier to update a keyword definition than errata every card.

The RRG has the full definition. Reminder text is reminder text, it is not full rules text.

After playing combat training (+1 attack), does it affect event cards such uppercut or swinging web kick?

Thank you.

spelling

@vmoss No. Combat Training gives your hero +1 ATK. It doesn’t increase damage on your events.
