Loose Cargo as "Squad-Obstacle"

By Wittrik, in X-Wing

Hey There,

could someone help me to clarify if the "Loose Cargo" can be used as a obstacle in the setup phase?

It has been moved from device to obstacle. I cannot find any rulings, which says, that this cannot be used as an obstacle for the squad-building ( as standard debris cloud ) .

Thanks!

It cannot be used as a standard obstacle for tournament xwing play or anyone playing by tournament rules. The tournament rules say you may bring any obstacle “except for those found in huge ship expansions.”

So the 3x debris from 1.0 raider and the loose cargo are not legal obstacles for standard play.

That said, casual xwing is casual - if you have opponents in agreement ahead of time do what you like! I typically toss the raider debris out for aces high or epic just to get them used.

"Loose Cargo" is a specifically named obstacle that acts as a debris cloud ---designated by card text on Rigged Cargo Chute. Loose Cargo is titled and defined as a "Placed" obstacle on page 24 of Rules Reference, and it requires an action to be "placed." So at setup, it doesn't qualify as an obstacle as it is not titled a Gas Cloud, Debris Field or Asteroid on that page, it is titled "Loose Cargo." Set-up allows only for placement of Gas Clouds, Debris Fields or Asteroids.
