Empire build for my first ever Store Championships

By deogg, in X-Wing Squad Lists

The title says it all, folks. Later this month I'll be playing in what is not only my first Store Championships, but my first OP event of ANY kind. Other than a very rare casual game, I don't get much flight time in. Soooooooo, I'm working on a build that will be a good mix of getting my feet wet in an OP event, yet still being at least somewhat competitive, yet not embarrassing myself all at the same time. This is what I've come up with so far. I'll probably change my mind once or twice....or ten times.....before the event lol. Anyhow, here goes:

TIE Advanced x1 - •Darth Vader - 69
•Darth Vader - Black Leader (67)
Fire-Control System (2)

VT-49 Decimator - •Rear Admiral Chiraneau - 89
•Rear Admiral Chiraneau - Advisor to Admiral Piett (76)
•Grand Inquisitor (13)

TIE/sk Striker - •“Duchess” - 42
•“Duchess” - Urbane Ace (42)

Total: 200/200

I like the idea of Darth and RAC together on paper thus far. The real question mark is Duchess. Do I stay with a totally vanilla Duchess, or maybe drop Duchess for a lower point ship or some upgrades for Darth/RAC and maybe a bid?

Any input is appreciated!

Duchess desperately needs bid. Drop Grand Inq for Dauntless and duchess will do some truly amazing work.

or fly countdown IMHO

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (76)
Grand Inquisitor (13)
Dauntless (4)

Ship total: 93 Half Points: 47 Threshold: 8

Maarek Stele (45)
Passive Sensors (3)

Ship total: 48 Half Points: 24 Threshold: 3

"Duchess" (42)
Fifth Brother (11)

Ship total: 53 Half Points: 27 Threshold: 2

Total: 194

A friend flew that recently and did quite well. Decimator has almost always double mods on whatever it decides to shoot at. Stele while not too tanky is the least dangerous piece of this list. Duchess is just herself in a very simplistic form. Can slap her with predator or something if you would like. It has a lot of pain potential. Also that Decimator is scary.

That seems to be a really good list, but have you considered putting Targeting Computer on Duchess? If you have that, then she can double-mod (to a certain extent) with Fifth Brother.

This is just my personal preference here, but it seems Fire-Control System on Maarek would provide a equivalent upside while adding a point to your bid.

"Duchess" wants to have the option to Roll without sacrificing too much of her offensive capabilities. I would grab Predator on her. And Passives on Stele are for any deeper bid I5 Squadron out there.

Ah, I see :)

Maybe I will try your version! It seems pretty solid, like you said.

I’m not a big fan of Duchess for players that haven’t had a chance to play many games with her, she can just melt and practice is so important to be able to maximize her usefulness.

I would probably drop Quis to Title on RAC and switch her up - possibly a hard hitter like Sabacc (with Ruthless and Hull Upgrade), that most players will want to get rid of but can delete something before he goes? Death Troopers instead of the Hull/Bid is also solid, as long as you remember them!

Oh yeah, totally forgot about that... Well Targeting Computer is a decent alternative. But practicing the art of flying Duchess is key here. She is extremely unpredictable, but only if the player knows her tricks.

Duchess on Striker and Echo on Phantom are two of the most fun ships to arc dodge with.

Edit:

If that is your first time flying a Striker, remember that the Ailerons are a maneuver, but not a maneuver.

  • You can bump and overlap obstacles with it.
  • If your Aileron overlapped an obstacle, you resolve it's effects normally, but as long as your revealed maneuver did not overlap, you do not lose your action.
  • Similarly you can bump with Ailerons without losing your action.
  • They do not trigger Snap Shot or Foresight as far as I am aware.
