I thought i would throe together a different rebel beef list with some ships i have sitting around. What does everyone think?
2 X Grey Squadron Bombers with ion cannon turrents and proton bombs
3 x Blue Squadron escorts with s foils.

I guess it'll be fine. I know 5x Blue Escorts is a solid list. I know that at least @KCDodger flies 5x Grey Ion/Proton Bombers, and has reported enjoyable games with the list.
So it's all good ships.
More broadly: The question is whether this is two great tastes that go great together, or whether the whole is less than the sum of the parts.
A large part of what's great bout X-Wings is their surprising mobility. They can close foils and turn into fat A-Wings when they need to, and open them up to turn into Kihraxes again. However, Y-Wings won't keep up. Is that a problem? Not necessarily. Seems really hard to outflank turreted Y-Wings who just get deployed in the middle and trundle up the board.
Meanwhile, Ion Y-Wings might be the kind of ship that needs critical mass. Having multiple Ion shots on a target increases the chances it works for control and not just damage. Bombs might enjoy being deployed in large numbers.
But even if it isn't a glorious mixture of X-Wing Chocolate and Y-Wing Peanut Butter, it's probably not terrible. Again, any time you have no bad pilots and no bad upgrades, you're off to a reasonable start.
I'd exchange one of the Xs for a Y. More board control, more surgical X-Wing strikes. More health.
Thanks for the input both of you.

So Say We All.
I tried that list recently but my squad was a mix of three red sqd veterans with crackshot and two gold sqd veterans with ion turrets.(Extended 200, in Hyper 197 <crackshots>)
It is a pretty fun list to fly, the Y's turned out to be a real headache for my opponent.
Yeah i would imagine with extended the fun opens up with the better options.
With the variety of options for this i can imagine the fun that would be possible.
