Recuscants/Providences, stock versions or dreadnought variants in Armada?

By Piratical Moustache, in Star Wars: Armada

Recuscant-class light destroyer

Stock: 1,187m

Dreadnought: 2,544m

Providence-class carrier/destroyer

Stock: 1088m

Dreadnought: 2,177.35m

General Grievous in the early days of the war had a Recuscant Dreadnought as his flagship before later using Invisible Hand the 1088m version. Admiral Trench used a Providence Dreadnought (Invincible). Assuming FFG doesn't want to have smaller and larger variants of the same ship what should they do?

They’ll definitely use the standard versions. I chalk up the “dreadnought” versions to “We need a really big ship for this episode of Clone Wars but we can’t be bothered to design an all-new ship so let’s just take this one and make it bigger!” And people complain about the Xyston, as if LucasFilm hasn’t been doing this all along. Victory and Imperial class, anyone? 😆

I personally would really like to see the Recuscant as the stock version(1187m, large ship), and the Providence as the Dreadnought version (2177m, large ship), becauseat 1088m that's medium sized ship range, and the Munificent is probably the most common in that size, and while the Providence is likely a broadside combatant ( versus the Munificent's front arc combatant), i hesitate to see how 1 faction should get both options in their medium base ships for gameplay/balance reasons.

The Recuscant Dreadnought likely would be passed over for the much more common light destroyer for Armada, but I would be willing to bet that a Providence Dreadnought would be released with a special Invincible paint scheme like how the Chimera and Thrawn was handled. Trench is a popular Clone Wars character and it wouldn't make sense to release him without his flagship, and Grievous could be the commander for a stock Providence release. I also think that saving time and money by scaling up an existing design makes sense for the corporate militaries of the CIS.

Both the Munificent and Recuscant have a lot of their power derived from their forward mounted heavy turbolasers, so I think that both would be front arc oriented combatants.

Neither here nor there, but one of the reasons I like the Separatists is because I love that trope in fiction of the corporation that becomes so powerful that it rivals governments (think Weyland-Yutani or Tyyrell Corporation). The Trade Federation had a seat in the Senate and battleships that we’re among the largest in the galaxy! I love stuff like that.

Needless to say, I’m definitely planning on adding a Separatist fleet to my collection.
