Saltmarsh in Terrinoth

By GnosisNoise, in Realms of Terrinoth

Okay. So I get to run the Terrinoth setting to a number of guys that only play OSR games. A friend of mine set it up and after a long discussion over some really good local craft beer, they have indicated that they have an intetest in trying Ghosts of the Saltmarsh - (they don't want to play 5e).

My questions(s) are as follows:

(1) How would I go by in letting Saltmarsh feel more Terrinoth - is there a specific town and region I could use?

(2) Are there creatures from Terrinoth that I can rather substitute for - Bullywug, Assassin Vines, Bodak, Sahaugin etc.? Creatures that are distinctly Terrinoth?

(3) Any guidance on converting creatures to fit Terrinoth? Not interested in a 5e to Genesys mechanical conversion guide - more the community's wisdom and how to make them feel interesting in the Genesys system...

Thank you in advance.

I'll follow up when on my laptop.

OK, first suggestion...., feel free to check out my Terrinoth Bestiary for hundreds of Terrinoth specific creatures. Not all have Genesys stats, but many, many do. It's here: https://www.scabard.com/pbs/campaign/235523/folder/243414

It also has some general conversion suggestions as well that work fairly well.

Bullywugs = Muurkrans

Assassin Vines = Mistvines

Both of the above creatures are in my Drive-Thru RPG product: Zanagan Zoology: Part 1 if you like. Link: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/302994

Sahaugin = Guardian of the Deep

Those above are pretty direct conversions to Terrinoth. For the Bodak, maybe Vrall or Ferrox . You can just search on any of these terms on the site, too, and get there.

If any of these terms are secret, or don't give you a result, please let me know, as I may have to make them unsecret.

As for location, Jendra's Harbor in the Barony of Telor would fit well, as it's a port city, and would easily explain why otherwise Zanagan creatures would be there (as it's the major launching point for expeditions to Zanaga). Here's the link for it. https://www.scabard.com/pbs/campaign/235523/place/308751

As for creature conversions, like I mentioned above, there's a guide on the Terrinoth Bestiary link. It lists the majority of special abilities in Genesys, so you should be able to find most of what you'd be looking for when converting a 5e creature there. ;) (look at the sub-tabs). Have fun with it!

Wow thank you for all of these!

Definitely going to raid your Drivethrurpg stach.

This will seriously help getting these guys to get the flavour of Terrinoth and the dice fun of the Genesys system.

Look for the Terrinoth Bundle . It's got all 3 that I have out right now, and you save almost $3 getting it all together!

And check more on my site for all kinds of free Terrinoth lore!

Glad to help!

@IamGazrok Just a question. I don't run settings like Terrinoth.

Would you say Terrinoth is a good setting to bring OSR and similar players over to Genesys? What type of stories play to the strength of Terrinoth?

It depends. If using the Genesys system, then stories with more roleplay and social interaction, as the Genesys system is excellent for that with narrative dice. But yeah, the beauty of Terrinoth is that even seasoned players of other games won't know what a creatures' stats are, or their abilities, etc. right off the bat. For me (with seasoned D&D players), that's been really fun for everyone. That and finding items they only saw in Descent or Runebound before (speaking of which, those are on my site, but without Genesys stats).

Wow thanks mate

Direreach's Creature Catalog is a good one too. Both his and Archellus are also linked in the Genesys forum, under the first pinned post, for resources.
