In the books Nyarlathotep was always depicted as the sly, cunning trickster of the Ancient Ones, and it's great to have an Arkham session in which he lives up to his billing. This game we ended up with FIVE Masks out at the same time: The Beast, the Bloated Woman, the Dark Pharoah, the Haunter in Darkness and the Shadowy Figure. We had the Plans in Motion rumor come up right before an Investigator came out at Yha'Nthlei, and it added two tokens to the Deep One Rising Track in the next two turns. The Investigator closed the gate without sealing to have the clues to put on the Feds track while another Investigator came down to help, stopping at the Esoteric Order. Of course next turn the Esoteric Order opened and the Rails Washed Out! The second Investigator was gone and no one else could get down to Innsmouth to help the first Investigator. At this point he was up to eight doom tokens with no sealed gates, so we started preparing for the final battle, but were able to accomplish little. When the Crawling Chaos awoke we were pretty much counting on our store of Clue tokens, only to find out that we had been Tricked all along (The Sinister Plot that reduces everyone to one clue token). We ended up losing when we still needed nine successes. A bitter loss, but a fun session nonetheless.
